APRedskins linebacker Ryan Kerrigan is in Hawaii for the Pro Bowl, which is usually seen as a sign that a player’s had a strong season.
Kerrigan led the Redskins with 8.5 sacks and was part of a second half defensive turnaround that carried the team to the NFC East title, but he doesn’t sound like a player who’s all that enthusiastic by what he achieved this season. John Keim of the Washington Examiner spoke to Kerrigan, who said he was upset by “the whole thing” when asked what he found lacking about the season.
“I definitely expected bigger things from myself and the team. We wanted to continue to advance,” Kerrigan said. “Coming into the season I wanted to be consistent week in and week out and I wasn’t that for most of the season. That’s frustrating. Hopefully I can use that as fuel.”
Kerrigan talked about the need to develop a deeper variety of moves to employ as a pass rusher before next season. Getting Brian Orakpo back healthy should also help Kerrigan and the rest of the defense, although Rob Jackson was something of a revelation down the stretch for a defense whose future is looking brighter after the way they closed the season.
