Some coaches are just better as coordinators (Norv Turner). And I loved the way Romeo handled the press conference after the Belcher kid shot himself at the team’s complex. He is a very classy individual who did as good a job as one could in light of that horrible tragedy. He seems to be a man of integrity and always has a tough defense. Will Smith and Cam Jordan are bigger DE’s who can probably translate to 3-4 ends. Smith hasn’t rushed the passer all too well as of late. Martez Wilson and Junior Galette have decent speed as rushers but whether they can excel as starting OLBs in a 3-4 remains to be seen. Too bad Crennel can’t bring Tamba Hali and Houston with him. However, some of the best years the Saints’ D had was the 3-4 Dome Patrol era. And the 2 Super Bowl teams play the 3-4. Anyway, now is the time to make bold changes because this D was historically awful.

No, his HC time here wasn’t stellar. But I can see that he was dealt a tough hand with a bad GM, a team with some serious holes and an unforeseeable tragedy on his watch.

But, I believe the man is a very talented DC and would do well in a good organization, like N.O.

He provided the defensive blueprint on how to beat the Packers last year, and while it’s less impressive because Ben got hurt, Steelers players were saying that defenses played them differently (and had more success) after they saw how KC played them this year.

But his style of defense has become far too passive. The Chiefs have 5 defenders in Hawaii right now, so they obviously have talent. But they spent the last few years in this low-aggression, react-first system that did nobody any favors.

The few times Romeo actually dialed up an aggressive game plan, the KC defense was legitimately good. But in 2012 it happened maybe twice all season.

I can’t say I’ve ever heard of a Pats fan that’s mellowed on Mangini but I have to admit, Eric Mangini is the victim of a huge double standard.

Mike Martz seems widely disliked yet no one will confuse that with his not being able to coach offense.

I think the same should hold true for Mangini. Whatever you think of him, he’s beaten Belichick somewhat convincingly the last two times out and he’s beaten some other very good coaches like he belongs in the league. The guy is only 42 years old. He’s got a lot of potential success yet.

Mangini knew that filming signal calling was, is and continues to be the norm (some clueless fans apparently don’t notice that even today coaches cover their mouths when calling in plays)

Mangini did what any head coach should do – he notified the officials that the Patriots were in violation of a new rule that took effect the year before.

Mangini never could have known that Goodell would have thrown the Patriots under the bus like he did, with Goodell acting like signal filming was somehow against the rules. That’s Goodell’s fault – not Mangini.

Now stupid players and fans alike assert that the Patriots championships in 2001, 2003 & 2004 are tainted because they broke a new 2006 rule. Mangini has said he feels bad about that, but that’s Goodell’s fault – not his.
