Eagles haven’t contacted Georgia about Grantham, yet

Grantham

As Eagles coach Chip Kelly looks for a defensive coordinator with “shutoutability,” one of the leading candidates continues to be a guy who has more than a little “shoutability.”

Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham has been on the short list since Kelly took the job.  But as John Clark of NBC 10 in Philadelphia reports, the Eagles have yet to contact the Georgia Athletic Director, a prerequisite to officially courting Grantham.

Of course, Grantham can still be unofficially courted for now.  Then, after the incoming crop of recruits sign on the dotted line in less than two weeks, the official courtship of Grantham can commence.

There also has been plenty of speculation in recent days regarding the possibility of bringing Steve Spagnuolo back to Philly.  He served as linebacker coach with the Eagles before becoming a Super Bowl-winning defensive coordinator of the Giants and head coach of the Rams.  Spagnuolo was fired Thursday by the Saints.

Hire Spanuolo. With the talent already on this defense Steve could have them back on top in no time.

    Saban wasn’t available??

Spagnolo had a ton of talent on that Giants team, but did nothing with the Rams or Saints. What makes anyone think he could help the Eagles, or any other team?

I ll take spags. But, my first choice is Lovi Smith….proven defense over and over. Year after year. Also, he brings a lot of Pro football knowledge to the Eagles. Chip will need all that sort of help he can get. Fired after a 10 and 6 season because of Tice????????????????????????

Georgia’s defense had a bunch of future NFL players and they couldn’t stop anybody.

They gave up over 300 yards rushing to Georgia Southern.

Are you looking for a coach who will make your talent underachieve? Grantham is your guy.

The Eagles are putting together one of the best college coaching staffs in the country…too bad they play in the NFL.

Randomcommenter, that’s a terrible example. You realize that Georgia Southern runs the triple-option, right? You realize that in 2011, Alabama also allowed 300 yards rushing to them, right? LOL

If the Eagles are looking for “shutoutability”, try GWilliams. Might be shut out of a lot of things if so…

…and since Kelly seemingly left to escape the NCAA inquisition, maybe hiring GWilliams makes sense. From one parolee to another…

Seriously, he might not be a bad selection. he does know defense and he has paid his due. If a team can sign Vick pst incarceration, I see no reason why they couldn’t sign GWilliams.

But there is Lovie Smith, but he has five million reasons not to coach this year.

There is Spagnuolo, but he might be better off going to the Chiefs, where Reid is building Dream Team 2.0

He is apparently also thinking of Ed Donnatell. Didn’t he get fired from GB because of their collapse against the Eagles in the playoffs years ago?

    Could also hire Mangini…

since he is so enamored of college guys, how about Tom Bradley?

Yeah, Spagnuolo did such a great job with the Saints’ defense that the Eagles should just rush out and hire him.

Word is that its Ed Donatells job after the super bowl, not that I want him but thats what the so called insiders have been saying

Enough with Lovie Smith. He came out WEEKS ago and said he woudnt take a coordinator job. Hes getting paid $5 million to sit home and watch football. He already said he’ll wait till next year for a head coaching job. He’s not an option.

    @ dallascowboysdishingthereal

You’ve been posting the same thing on every single column that has anything to do with the eagles. We all get it, you want to convince others, while convincing yourself that Chip Kelly will fail as a NFL coach. We can all see you are worried, get over it
