Doubt that Whis, newly fired from his first head-coaching position, would have wanted to wind up working for his former receivers coach–the guy who took his old job as OC when he moved up.

And I don’t think the Steelers dodged a bullet when they took Tomlin over Grimm as HC. I’ve never believed the media stories that the Steelers were poised to hire Grimm. The guy was from Pittsburgh and had been our offensive line coach–but he didn’t in any way match Dan Rooney’s hiring history. Noll and Cowher were young defensive coordinators … just like Tomlin. The Steelers got exactly who they wanted.

Sorry, Whisenhunt got a better opportunity in San Diego where their is a quality franchise quarterback in place. Might as well go with a quarterback that is proven and has shown signs of being elite in the past in Philip Rivers. Whisenhunts’ thinking process “Hmmmm…… Rivers or Kolb”

Bowles didn’t work miracles when he got the interim DC job in Philly, but I’m not sure that mess should be laid at his feet. Juan Castillo, Reid, and dumping the Wide 9 DL were a lot to overcome on the fly. Bowles has been a well regarded player, then coach, for many years, so we will see how he does in his first real chance as a DC.

Grimm is an awful offensive line coach. If he would have been anywhere near as bad of a head coach as he is at his position, the Steelers dodged a bullet when they opted for Tomlin over him.

Arians wanting Grimm as his line coach (if true) is the first thing I have heard that makes me wonder about Arians’ judgement. Hope his hire in AZ is ready to be a teaching OL coach–we need that.

Re: Grimm, had Whisenhunt stayed and Grimm not been let go, there would have been mutiny in Arizona.

Russ Grimm is a HOF player, and most likely wasn’t given much to work with on that ‘Zona OLine. That said, coaching isn’t for every ex-player. The Cardinals OL has been in shambles for years. It was time for a change.
