Actually MANY of the 1st round picks were picked by former teams: ref. Randy Moss, Carlos Rogers, Donte Whitner or were picks acquired via draft trade allowing for 2 1st round picks (ref. acquiring both Llupati and A. Davis).

Not only did the Saints missing Payton show the importance of great coaching, but also the 9ers success now does. They collected talent for years and yet underachieved due to not having a great coaching staff. Top flight coaches/coaching staffs are way more important than any one great player.

I’ve seen two playoff teams take the opposite approach to it the way the Niners run it and neither approach worked. The Niners don’t run it like the Redskins or the Seahawks do and I’ll wait until I see someone effectively stop it before I believe it can be effectively stopped.

That is what was mysterious about Alex Smith, they were loaded with offensive talent, they had no need to rely on a super defense.
Which is suddenly clear to all.

They will have trouble keeping that many good players on the roster.

I love the hooplah the 49ers have been getting, they (the media train) were all saying after the vikings loss, they got exposed, after the giants loss, they got exposed, after the seattle and rams loss, one and done, How funny to hear these same “Experts” picking them over the Ravens. They are a diffrent form of the same team last year, but dont discount thier hunger, lewis’s last game or not, its gonna be the cowboy and his henchmen that slam the door shut. Play hard and we gonna see how dominant football is played!

For all the ravens fans out there that are acting like this one is in the bag for you i can sense your fear. The niners do have a very good team. there is no doubt about that. so to comment with the likes of “blah blah blah…ravens got this” and its ray lewis’s last game niners are gonna get crushed” just shows your lack of confidence in your team. Do not get it confused. this will be a great game with players on both sides that want this very much.

I think people are missing the point. Everybody has first round picks. The fact that their picks tend to stick is a testament to their talent evaluation at draft time. Everybody also has players on their team who weren’t drafted in the first round. It’s not that the good teams get more picks, it’s that they make the most of their picks, hence the “what about the Lions?” comments. Luck is also a factor so before Niners fans feel like I’m totally sticking up for them, a lot of those picks could have just as easily fizzled like they do for other teams. They sure do have an exciting, tough team though. The butt kicking they put on my Packers still stings.

There is no doubt Justin Smith knows a lot more about the inner workings of the SF locker room than any of use …..But know game is won in the locker room it’s on the field. And I believe that talent will rise….

Justin seems to be misremembering the NFC Championship, which was won by the 9ers O. Certainly no “loaded” defense puts their team in a 17 point hole and manages one sack for zero yards against a statue of a QB in Matt Ryan. Let CKap talk the smack, he’s earned the right.

This is how you build a winner. You don’t only focus on draft or FA. If you are able to accumulate talent over time with a mixture of vets and young guys, you WILL have a stacked team.

They do have big time talent ,as for other teams like the eagles look at there 2010 and 2011 drafts were they got NOTHING to help the team.When you continually miss in the draft your franchise will pay a steep price,with a salary cap it is impossible to build a good team thru free agency
