Ravens assistant Ted Monachino in mix for Eagles defensive coordinator

The Eagles open Super Bowl week without a defensive coordinator and it doesn’t look like they’ll hire one until after the big game.

49ers defensive backs coach Ed Donatell has been linked with the job for a while and Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that a member of the Ravens staff will also be considered for the opening. Linebackers coach Ted Monachino is drawing the attention of the Eagles, although there’s no indication that they’ve requested permission to interview Monachino at this point.

Monachino joined the Ravens in 2010 after spending five years on the staff in Jacksonville. He had been a coach at Arizona State before coming to the NFL and coached Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs at the collegiate level. The Ravens could block him from interviewing, although, again, things don’t seem to have progressed to that point yet.

Monachino does not have experience as a coordinator. Donatell spent three years as the coordinator in Atlanta and ran Green Bay’s defense from 2000 to 2003. That Packers run ended when the team fired him shortly after Eagles wide receiver Freddie Mitchell caught a pass from Donovan McNabb to convert a 4th-and-26 en route to an Eagles playoff win.

Monachino helped make Suggs DPOY – Raven coaches are always getting picked up. What a great organization.

I wonder why no one wants to be DC for a team that just hired the latest, greatest offensive mastermind as HC?

I guess no one likes to be ignored.

Gee, why would someone want to leave being a defensive backs coach to become a DC? And are you being serious by saying the NFC West is easier than the East ?

Seriously, has any other organization had as many coaches get promoted to jobs with other teams?

Chip Kelly is the teacher. The world is his student. His 3/4ths times larger than average brain allows him to see more and make better decisions than any other coach in the NFL. His choice for defensive coordinator is guaranteed to become the greatest assistant coach in the NFL.

Yet another team looking to dip into the Ravens talent well. Look at all the ex-raven coaches in coordinator or HC positions around the league, pretty impressive.
