Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew is still moving around on a scooter after surgery on his foot in late December, but he said Wednesday that he hopes to start rehab next month.

Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times-Union reports that Jones-Drew will start working out in the pool in February as the first step in his return from the injury that robbed him of most of the 2012 season. If all goes well, he’ll progress to land-based work in March and attend the team’s first minicamp even if he isn’t ready to participate.

Jones-Drew didn’t have much to say about his future with the Jaguars. He’s entering the final year of his deal and has already said this offseason that he won’t hold out again this year, something he reiterated on Wednesday,

“I’ve never been one to jump ship,” Jones-Drew said.

Of course, Jones-Drew has also said that he doesn’t plan on asking for a new deal this year, which would allow him to become a free agent who could potentially jump ship after the season. Which is a roundabout way of saying we don’t know much about Jones-Drew’s future beyond this season.
