When you say you’re sorry “if you offended anyone” what you’re really saying is the problem lies with those who were offended, not with what you said. In other words, it’s not really an apology at all.

If anything, Culliver is sorry his bigotry is now public knowledge. But that’s about it.

I would agree if that’s what he said which it wasn’t. Here’s part of his statement.
“I apologize to those who I have hurt and offended, and I pledge to learn and grow from this experience.”

He deserves to be ripped but at least be accurate.

Anyway, Chris Culliver—–come off it already. We get it, you saw the reflection of your own hate and you didn’t like what you saw. That’s good. Stop making excuses for what you said. What you said is what you meant in the moment. It is what it is.

Chris Culliver is entitled to his views, and given the fact millions disagree with him, we’re entitled to say as much.

Instead, we get a 24-hour forced apology, and media hounds continue to plague Culliver with the same question, worded differently.

People should find more important things to do than worry about what someone says in a locker room. If someone looked at me and said they didn’t want me around for whatever reason, then I would tell them it’s their problem, get over it. I wouldn’t run to the press and make a national news story about it. If he made a threat to harm someone, that would be different, but this is ridiculous. Let’s Play Football.

People saying why can’t he just say what he feels? He is being straight forward and honest, why condemn him for that?

He has an employer and his interview, like it or not, is associated with his role as an employee. Football players are public figures and represent their companies, sometimes even in the loosest of confines. Unfortunately, you really can’t let your guard down on controversial issues. These players are schooled on this ahead of time. So the association with his team and the league make it a big deal. The city he plays in makes it a big deal. And the league makes it a big deal. So that is why you just can’t say whatever you want. Can you on your job, say anything at all at a work event or at an event that is related to your work? Not many of us can.

On the other side, bigot or not, he said what he did. He’s young and not very articulate. He made a bad apology. He may be bigoted. So are a lot of people. I don’t excuse it. But exposed bigots are far more preferable than those that never show their true colors.

Newsflash…the 49er players are NEVER in SF. The 49ers practice and live in the South Bay. They live in exlcusive suburbs with Silicon Valley CEO’s, they hang out in San Jose and Santa Clara. The culture of the South Bay is very different from San Francisco.

It’s not ok to use language that would discourage or prevent citizens from being part of an NFL team. Regardless of sexual orientation or racial heritage or religion. He represents a team and a league, he’s not some idiot standing on the street.

what happen to free speech? You have to be politically correct all the time but a person can use the stage to promote their politically correct stance. You know like that guy from Baltimore, what’s his name!. But it is also ok in the NFL to kill a guy and cover it up as long as you have good lawyers and a pose. That is ok. He wasn’t being politically incorrect. He was saying that gay people aren’t welcome on the team and if they are already there they have to leave. He can’t say those things. He doesn’t have to agree with the gay community at all, he just has no right to prevent gay people from being part of an NFL team.

If he doesn’t want a gay player in the locker room, so what? It’s his viewpoint, nobody elses. Does every player in the league have to embrace the views of the gay community?

You are wrong about this… It’s ok if his opinion is that it’s not ok to be gay… It’s also fine if his opinion is to not support the gay community or gay marriage. Those he is entitled to. That said, he cannot say he doesn’t want gay people on the team. That is anti-american. Evey citizen has the right to play on an NFL team if they have the talent.

A lot of sports players already share the locker room with a gay player……they just don’t know it. Probably 8 to 10% of males are gay or have experienced a sexual encounter with another male. Why should football be any different? It isn’t.
The idea that gay men ogle every other male in every setting is nothing but pure ignorance. Most gay men don’t really spend a lot of time hitting on straight guys. Is every straight player focused on sex every time a female sports reporter enters the locker room? Hardly. The ones who loudly proclaim they’re afraid a gay player might hit on them must not be convinced of their ability to resist or don’t know if they would really WANT to resist.

O.K. I’m getting the sense most people don’t understand our 1st amendment. NOBODY is restricting his free speech. He chose to say what he said and he chose to apologize. He didn’t have to apologize if he didn’t want to. The media is just covering the story and not restricting his speech in any way, shape, or form.

Culliver expressed his discomfort in a very crude and crass manner – and he deserves to be called on it.

But we wouldn’t call a woman a bigot because she wasn’t comfortable sharing a locker room and shower with men.

Free speech isnt about promoting hatred, some of you guys blindly cling to the constitution to a fault. It was written up by slave owners and racists.
