As a NINER FAN I would like to congratulate Tony on a great career! U are as of right now the best TE to ever play the game! However falcons fans, EAT IT.. We were the superior team and have been since last year.. Cut out with your hating.. You guys played good but didn’t do nothing second half because great defense especially the LEGAL coverage.. I’m a Vikings fan, so I probably shouldn’t say this but I really hope Tony Gonzalez comes back. There aren’t too many guys that get to play this game until they’re 40. Tony is still in great shape and top 5 (probably higher) at his position. Don’t give it up because you feel you have to Tony. You still will help the Falcons out next year a tremendous amount, why not do it? A true class act and I hope to get to watch this first ballot hall of famer at least one more year.

Just a quick word to all of the angry Saints fans that spend all day trolling Falcons articles, I know that you are angry because your season was over in mid-October.

Please keep in mind that the Falcons have now won the NFC South 2 of the last 3 years. It might be time to consider that your miracle run is over.

For the time being, have fun in that nasty swamp of a state and we will see you in September.

All this Atlanta hatred, yet Atlanta is still the number one city people are moving to in the USA. The Falcons had a good team this year and it was a good thing. But unlike most cities, we don’t tolerate losing. We got so much more stuff to do than sit around watching a losing team lose.

But it was really nice seeing the Saints lose so badly. Beating them, watching them get shut out of the playoffs and the incessant whining was just a whole lot of fun. Especially now that most of the folks from New Orleans actually MOVED to Atlanta, I really liked watching them going to their Walmarts, feeling sad because their team was terrible.

That was FANtastic!

You do know that the Saints have owned the Falcons and even though our coach was suspended we beat you once this year and if drew wouldn’t have been pressing so hard to keep his streak alive we would have swept you again this year. Tony = Great person, Great athlete. Tony is still top 5 talent in the league at his position even if he is aging. Stay or Go, either way Tony, you have had a great career. Too bad the forty-whiners cheated/screwed you out of a SB attempt. I would have much rather watched ATL vs. BAL in the SB over those undeserving whiners. Let the two soon to be retired guys battle it out for the ring… Oh well, it won’t happen since the NFL wanted this stupid Harbaugh Bowl instead.

I really hope that Tony comes back for one more year. He’s one of the best tight-ends that I’ve ever seen play the game and he makes all of the players around him that much better. It was fantastic to see him have some playoff success this year! Whether or not you come back, Tony, you’ve been a great ambassador for the game.

Tony is smart for retiring, he would of retired last year but stayed because Sean Payton was suspended! Now that Payton’s back, he knows not to waste his time, Saint will own the NFC, much less the Division!

What’s really sad is Tony Gonzalez and Adrian Peterson both are some of the best if not the best ever (TGON) at their respective positions. They were just always saddled with teams that continuously failed.

I’m a Saints fan. But, I’ve got to admit it wasn’t has much fun as I thought it would be watching the Falcons blow that 17 point lead. Now, in all honesty I was almost wishing the Falcons would have won the game so Tony would have made it to the superbowl. Although, I dreaded the idea of the Falcons winning on the floor of our dome. And, really my heart goes out to the Falcon fans. Because, I know the best chance you had to win the Superbowl was this year. Rather Tony comes back or not, it won’t matter. Saints fans will understand what I’m about to say better than anyone. When I look at the Falcons coach I think of Jim Mora SR when he coached the Saints. During the regular season the Saints would roll over everyone but in the playoffs they just couldn’t get it done. The Falcons will never win a Superbowl with Mike Smith as coach. Because he doesn’t know how to get his team to raise there level come playoff time. I have no doubt that the Falcons will be in the mix for the next few years. But, the will never get over the hump. Tony pull off the jersey now and move on. Go out now. Don’t pull a Bret Farve

Do they need to get better on that side of the ball? absolutely. By the way how did the niners d look giving up 477 yards to atlanta. The pick they got was because the receiver slipped and the fumble was a fumbled snap. And contrary to some earlier posts the niners d didnt shut atl down in the second half. Atlanta had over 200 yards in the second half. The turnovers stopped atlanta

They were a couple bad calls from going to the superbowl. If the Refs hadent given the niners an extra drive with that “roughing the passer” penalty , They win the game. If the refs called pass interference for Roddy on forth down or Rodgers on third, They win the game. They are legit contenders and their offense put up points against the 2 best defenses in the league.

Give the Falcons an extra set of downs like they did Kapernick and see what happens.

Tough for players to come back after such a successful season that fell just short. Many of them say it’s incredibly dispiriting. Ross Tucker has said that the #1 question ex-players are asked is “did you play in a Super Bowl,” and that’s one of the reasons why losing a conference title game can actually hurt more than losing the Super Bowl itself; not making it at all is worse than making it and losing.

As a vet, Gonzalez knows there’s no guarantee that ATL will be able to have the same success next year. But from a fan’s perspective, the guy still has plenty in the tank and could still be one of the top TEs in the game for at two more years.

I love Tony but he can not stretch the field like he use. Hes only good for short receptions. I wonder how good our offense would be if we have a TE who can run seam routes with alot more speed.

I attended the Saints at Falcons game in 2011 and Falcons fans rose up alright. They rose up and left the stadium when their team was behind just 10 points with over 7 minutes left and the ball. The Falcons tied that game and lost in OT but many Falcons fans were not there to see it. Atlanta is a great city to run a corporation or open a chain store but it is not a great one to try to win a Superbowl. Maybe Tony Gonzalez realized what Matt Ryan, Mike Smith, and the city of Atlanta’s limitations are awhile ago, and realized that the most graceful way to exit will be to ‘retire’ for a few months, let the Falcons try to replace him in free agency or the draft, and then have a sudden change of heart to sign with a contender in summer.
