Man look at all the Gm’s. Ravens GM has made it clear Flacco is gonna stay as long as he’s GM. Therefore even with Lewis and Reed numbers off the books they are still over the cap. It’s not about drafting Boldin replacement it’s about find the way to keep Flacco and Boldin is one contract that would allow them to do that maybe. We will see y’all can guess or play GM all you want. To get under the cap either Boldin goes or Flacco goes which one would you want more??

Some discrepancy in facts. Do a search in “ravens salary cap 2013″ and it appears they are currently UNDER the cap. My guess is Schefty projected some resignings. Good thing we’re not all GMs and leave it to the pros. But hey it was good enough to start a near riot in the comments between the still relevant Ravens fans and the no longer relevant, “watching from our couches, silently rooting for the Ravens since we don’t want the Niners to have a 6th Lombardi too” Steeler fans.

Some of the Steelers fans on this thread make me ashamed to be part of the same camp. Seriously guys, grow some class if you want to talk trash about the Raven’s fans being jerks.

That said, losing Boldin would be a tough thing to overcome. He’s big, physical, and a great target on third down and in the red zone. He also is over looked for his contributions blocking up field in the run game. Anyone that says he’s getting old and would be willing to take less money to stay on a team hasn’t been watching him play. He is going to get paid if he makes it to free agency. Miami, NY Jets, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Seattle, Minnesota, Tennessee, St Louis, and Kansas City would all at the least give him a sniff.

We lose good players every year in cap situations. We’ve been in the playoffs for 5 years straight and to 3 AFC Championships. I’m not concerned. We will either keep him or find someone to replace him. My money is on him staying… Go Ravens!!!!

Ray Lewis retires that saves 6 mil next year. Birk retires that saves 3.5 mil. still going to have to restructure or make some unwanted cuts to a few players but that happens every year anyway.

Consider that Ray Lewis is off the books when he retires, Ed Reed will be a free agent and Matt Birk very likely could retire as well. The only players that the Ravens currently have big chunks of money invested in are Ngata, Suggs, Webb, Rice, and Yanda. I’m pretty sure that they will be ok.

As far as Boldin is concerned, I’d be willing to bet that this postseason has sealed a restructuring/extension on the final year of his contract, much like Heap did a few years back for the Ravens before they released him. Boldin exemplifies the type of receiver Newsome has wanted for years, he even admitted to making a huge mistake in passing on Boldin when he was drafted after he traded for the guy. I’m sure Boldin would be willing to play ball on such a thing as a team player and would like the additional job security, in addition to helping the Ravens’ cap situation some.

Boldin couldn’t get out of Arizona fast enough because the Cards didn’t value his services and going through door #2 into the Ravens organization got him another shot at the SB. If the Ravens have caught Bidwill fever then perhaps Q should get his buddy Larry Fitz to team up again as the dynamic duo with maybe GB or Minnesota or San Diego!

Kruger is absolute garbage, why does the national media act like he’ll be some big free agent find? The Ravens will let him walk. He’s good for one thing only — getting sacks by blowing past inferior o-linemen. Colts playoff game was a prime example, but he vanished as soon as he played against superior o-lines in the form of the Broncos and Pats. The regular season was the same way, he padded his stats by flopping on QBs who were beaten by somebody else or by beating bad o-linemen.

Boldin leaving, now that’s a different story and cause for sadness…

Dont discount Kruger that much . Suggs is a great player . But if you put Kruger next to someone like Woodley ? I think he would still be ok . Or next to a Ryan Kerrigan ? Many teams that run a 3-4 could use his talent and he would still be effective .

Fact of the modern day NFL. But the ravens have had a strong five year playoff run. This is why the draft is so important esp the low rounds as is the ability to find good inexpensive FA’s like ellerbe, tucker etc. and the ability to pull off a trade for a guy like Q while only giving up second day picks.
