Mara,

You great man who worked so hard to buy (inherit) the team in which you have 50 percent ownership. Why don't you and your son who prefers Broadway Musicals to Football just issue a substantial salary cap penalty to two of your division opponents for refusing to break federal anti-trust laws? Then, with full support of the leader of the NFLPA (who will later sue the NFL for his own incompetence), you can take the Giants pro-rata share of the penalty to extend that obnoxious salsa-dancing freak who said in November that the Redskins are a few players away from being a division contender right before the Skins beat NY and won the division.

Tough spot here for everyone. Cruz may be the #1 fan favorite and the Giants may face a huge backlash if fans think they are not treating Cruz right. A public relations nightmare. But cap reality is cap reality and they do have to put a whole team on the field that can compete for all 16 games. They would both be better off negotiating in private, however. Comments to the public like "Cruz is asking for too much money right now" only escalate matters, inflame opinions, and solve nothing.

@ iivil hey moron Pierre played about 10 games at best this year so you to compare him to that midget wr is totally stupid do your research before you open your mouth fool.!!!!!!
---------------------------------------------------------------
If you put Cruz stats up against any of Garcon's stats, Cruz stats are still better.

Cruz is great 2nd string WR, could be a number one on a lot of teams. Every time I seen him play, he always embarrassing the other teams' 1st string CB.

As for calling him a midget, he's 6'0" same height as Garcon. You are one ignorant person, that word is offensive to some people. I bet you are one of them people who uses racist comments all the time. Mommy and Daddy must of not taught you right.

Do some research before opening your mouth, next time you won't look so clueless.

I find it ironic that people are calling the Giants greedy, considering they fought for revenue sharing when they easily could be the Yankees of football, that argument is stupid...

-------------
Dude you seem unaware that the "Yankees" of football have traditionally been the Redskins. Go look at the historic valuation of major sports franchises and tell me how the Giants become the "Yankees" of football? Cowboys, Redskins, Patriots all have had higher valuations, cashflow, and profit margin.

Oh and to you idiots who are complaining about the salary cap: it’s called a gentlemen’s agreement..

------
hey blue balls - or whatever your name is --- why wasn't the "gentlemen's agreement" enforced when the contracts were signed - why were the contracts approved if they violated the "gentlemen's agreement"?

You throw that term around ("gentlemen's agreement) like it obsolves the NFL owners of collusion or wrong doing.

Let me put it in terms New Yorkers might be able to understand. When all those gas stations gouged customers after the hurricane -- they did nothing wrong -- they had a "gentlemen's agreement" to all raise prices simultaneously. Funny though how you all complain about this simple "gentlemen's agreement".

logicalvoicesays February 1, 2013, 3:05 PM EST

Fanofevilempire, get out of here with that. The Maras are snakes who lie to your face. Give me Dan Snyder everyday of the week. While he may not be the nicest guy at least you know firsthand what he’s about and will do anything to win FAIRLY.
------------------------------------
I was really looking forward to destroying this comment; making fun of it by pointing put its inaccuracy, bias, and the fact that ever since Snyder bought the team, he's been the laughing stock of the NFL and his own fans have been calling for his job. But alas, I scrolled up to see who wrote it and its pointless. The voice of illogical thinking took this opportunity from me, as it will surely fall on the ears of one ill-equipped to process the facts. What a waste.

BTW, I am beyond words to describe my disappointment that this joker has rubbed of on one of my fellow Eagles fans using the name logicalvoicesays(if its not him posing as an Eagles fan). These two jokers are an embarrassment to their respective fan bases and absolutely nothing logical but fanboy, biased, nonsense.

Eli Manning, Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Joe Flacco, Matt Ryan and Tom Brady are all QB's that can make a star Receiver out of pretty much anyone. If you look at the Receivers that have played for or do play for these QB's now, they are all pretty much at the top of the stat sheet for their respected positions, including TE's. Therefore, these teams do not need to pay top dollar to their Receivers and Tight Ends. Because if they lose one top Receiver, they'll make a new one out of the next guy that comes along. Dime a dozen.

bluereign says: Feb 1, 2013 3:53 PM

Dude, your an idiot. Gentleman's agreement, more like collusion. And why wouldn't the rest of the teams not accept MORE MONEY in their cap?

Why is the cap going to be flat this year? Last year it was going to be less until Mara stepped in to make a competitive advantage for his Giants. How about the timing? Coincidence that it happened the night before free agency. Yeah right.

Loved how karma came back and smacked the Giants in the opener when Dallas laid the smack down on them.

I wouldn't associate honor with Mara and his cheating ways.

Restructuring contracts by front loading bonus money is neither smarmy or sneaky as teams are allowed to do so provided they don't go over the cap. Bruce allen already said they did this while he was in tampa. Other owners didnt do it because your basically spending money now to spend more later. Just how many owners want to spend as much as is allowed? There is a reason why the union fought for a cap floor.

As for the Giants end of this two things to keep in mind.

The money from Washington and Dallas only increased the cap by 1.2 million per team.

Secondly situations like this is the cost of having a GM who drafts well. At some point you have to say goodbye to talented players if you have a player pool on your team that well. You can't pay everybody what they want.

In response to other 9ers fans I would completely be for the 9ers giving their first rounder to the Giants to sign Cruz. I would actually be more for that than trading for Revis.

I have liked what Cruz brought to the table for a team since I first saw him play in the pre-season his rookie season. And that season he didn't do it with Eli throwing the ball he did that with the third string QB throwing to him so the kid can def ball.

If I am Baalke I'd try to sign Cruz in a heartbeat and part with the 32/31 pick and not bat an eye. A WR corps of Crabtree and Cruz with Davis at TE is deadly enough. Then factor in next year and however long after that having Gore at RB? 9ers offense would be nasty. Completely worth the pick.

I agree with an earlier compliment about the Mara's.. All these people forget the NFL share's revenue with teams in smaller markets, and the players union.. I find it ironic that people are calling the Giants greedy, considering they fought for revenue sharing when they easily could be the Yankees of football, that argument is stupid. I agree collusion took place, but it also took place with the players to prevent a lock out. Everyone knew that the players were still a union despite them saying they were not. Obviously after the events unfolded, Washington/Dallas went back on an agreement that was in place with ALL the owners. Quit pretending it was only the Giants, it was everyone except Raiders(didn't vote), Washington and Dallas.

There was a lot of Teams that wished they could dump a Haynesworth contract and put all of Miles Austin Salary in 1 year, but maybe those teams couldn't aford it because they don't have the revenue like a Cowboys or Washington. We all know the Giants have the revenue.
