Of the various stops during Bill Parcells’ stop-and-start career, his least success came in Miami, where a first-year playoff berth in his job as V.P. of football operations disintegrated into a franchise that continues to struggle to compete for the postseason.

But the Dolphins are being very gracious, congratulating Parcells for his induction into the Hall of Fame.

“I want to congratulate Bill Parcells on his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame,” owner Stephen Ross said. “He had his own unique style in building a successful organization and instilled a winning mindset at all levels as both a coach and executive. While he might have had different levels of success at each of the teams he worked for, he always left each franchise far better off than how he found it.”

He definitely left the Dolphins better off than how he found them, in part because he found them at 1-15. But they’re still a long way from being among the best teams in the league, punctuated by the first big decision Parcells made there -- choosing Jake Long over Matt Ryan with the first pick in the 2008 draft.
