If Randy Moss declared he’s the best receiver ever this week in order to stir up the kind of criticism that he could then use as motivation, consider one of the other greatest receivers of all time -- and a former Moss teammate -- among the critics.

Cris Carter, a newly-minted Hall of Famer, tells Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times that Jerry Rice is the best receiver who ever played. Period.

‘‘No big deal to me, but Jerry Rice is the best receiver ever,” Carter said. “There’s no question. Not going to go into great detail.”

Carter also said on ESPN today that he predicts Moss will make a pair of big plays as part of a San Francisco win. If that happens, the dust storm created by Randy’s rant will likely be partially responsible for his performance.
