For the Ravens Joe Flacco may very well be worth it. They struggled for years to stabilize the QB position and they probably don’t want to go back to trying to find a playoff tested QB. I also chuckle that so many are gung ho about letting Flacco walk fo 2 first. There’s a reason why a team like Arizona, Kansas City, Jacksonville, maybe Cleveland, etc would pay for a QB who has won a playoff game 5 years straight. Good QBs are extremely hard to come by. Your whole team can be crippled because of that. Arizona was actually a good team but because of their QB situation you didn’t see that. If Cleveland had better QB play I think they make the playoffs. Seattle was a great team that couldn’t fulfill their destiny untill the QB situation was stabilized. The last good young QB to hit free agency was Drew Brees and that was only because San Diego had another good young QB in Philip Rivers and Brees suffered a major injury to his throwing shoulder.

Flacco will be a Raven next year and he’ll sign a deal close to $20 million per season. He holds all the cards.

Stafford has no running game to lean on like Joe Flacco. While Stafford has Calvin, remember that he is still the youngest QB to throw for 5,000 yards. The guy is still in his rookie contract and at the age of 24. Younger than a Cam Newton. He has the potential for elite status.

Flacco shouldn’t get 20 million. Not at the cost of the team’s talent. He is a good QB. He makes good throws and is on a great run. Lets not get ahead of ourselves here like he got Manning and Brady elite status. Word is consistency. Before anyone says Flacco beat them both, Sanchez did the same. Winning is a team effort.

And because the NFLPA is so weak the cap will not rise any time soon.

In Mid-December following his losses to Charlie Batch and then the Redskins, the talk around Baltimore was that the Ravens may look at their options at QB going forward. He was so unimpressive this year that the Ravens made the unconventional decision to fire their OC after the Skins loss in week 14.

Flacco deserves a lot of credit for stepping up in the last few games, but he’s a QB that after 5 seasons has never thrown for 4k yards in a season, at a time when when the old 4K yard benchmark is now 5K yards. He has one regular season in which he had a 63 pct completion percentage.

Good luck to the Ravens today. I guess if they win a Super Bowl it really doesn’t matter how much cap hell they will be in down the road. But if they lose today and end up in cap hell “Flacco” may be a four letter word in Baltimore next season and in the years after.
