Report: Rams have met with Dick Jauron

When the Rams moved on from their near-marriage to Rob Ryan, Dick Jauron jumped to the top of the list of names rumored to be in the running for their defensive coordinator job.

Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. Jason La Canfora of reports that the team has now met with Jauron about the position. There’s no indication about how that meeting went, although Jauron would seem to make sense given his 4-3 background after things reportedly fell apart over schematic differences.

Jauron was the defensive coordinator in Cleveland for the last two seasons, finding a bit more success in 2011 than they had this season. He was let go after new coach Rob Chudzinski hired Ray Horton to replace him. The former Bills and Bears head coach has also been a coordinator with the Lions and Jaguars during a long coaching career.

The Rams have been without a defensive coordinator since Gregg Williams was suspended by the league before the 2012 season. There’s been talk of Williams joining the Titans when he gets the go-ahead to return from Roger Goodell, leaving the Rams at least a little bit of time to land a new defensive chief before Williams returns to the game.

  1. The Rams defense has some high motor players. He’ll have to look at the film before he can comment.

  2. Good thing they didn’t hire Overrated Rob Ryan. I think Dick Juaron will get the most out of the Rams defense, who have a great young core of players to work with.

Michael Bockers is a great tackle you can build around.

Chris long is an all around solid defensive end.

Janorus Jenkins has the ability to be a top 5 cornerback in any given year.

Rob Ryan seems like he’s just skating on the reputation of his last name.

  3. Jauron would be a great fit but honestly they can hire within. Dave Maginnis or Chuck Cecil both helped out last year and both have DC experience

  4. It’s hard to imagine Rob Ryan doing any skating. Riding the gravy train, oh yeah, lots of gravy…

  5. want to know why teams continually stay bad, look no further. Rather than trying to unearth new talent, the rams are using some has been. Sure you will get some misses with new coaches but why settle for a guy who you know will bring a only a middle of the pack D?

  6. Get ready for a season full of zingers like these, Rams fans:

What’s that pain deep inside your guts whenever your defense takes the field?

    Maybe it’s that Dick Jauron..
