Jacoby Jones grabs the SI cover

Joe Flacco got the Corvette, but Jacoby Jones gets the cover.

Sports Illustrated opted to place the man who could have been the game’s MVP on the front page of the Super Bowl XLVII issue. Jones generated a Super Bowl-record 290 yards, with a 56-yard touchdown catch late in the first half and a 108-yard kickoff return to start the second half.

It made the New Orleans native one of the biggest stars of the biggest game, and it surely has Texans fans wondering what could have been if Jones hadn’t been cut. Especially since Ravens coach John Harbaugh declared at his Monday press conference that the Ravens wouldn’t have won the Super Bowl without Jones on the team.

So now he’s on the cover, and that’s something that will last a lot longer than the sports car into which Flacco will be trying to cram his six-foot, six-inch frame.
