Eagles dump Demetress Bell

Bell

Last year, after Eagles left tackle Jason Peters suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon, the “break glass in case of emergency option” was Demetress Bell.

And now the bell has tolled for Demetress. The Eagles announced on Wednesday that the former Bills starter has been released.

It’s no surprise. With a $1 million base salary and an $8.5 million roster bonus due in 2013, this was a contract that was going to be honored only if Bell had played like Peters.

Bell didn’t. He appeared in nine games with five starts in his only season with the Eagles. He instantly becomes an unrestricted free agent.

The Eagles filled the roster spot by signing defensive end/linebacker Chris McCoy. And it will be difficult to know how McCoy fits into the team’s new defense since it doesn’t have, you know, a defensive coordinator.
