Giants re-sign Bear Pascoe, Shaun Rogers

The Giants let three members of the 2012 rosters go this week and they’ve decided to bring back two others.

Tight end Bear Pascoe and defensive tackle Shaun Rogers have both signed contracts for the 2013 seasons. Rogers spent the year on injured reserve after developing a blood clot in his leg over the summer. With Chris Canty gone, there will be snaps for the taking at the position.

Pascoe was set to be a restricted free agent this offseason, but the Giants put off dealing with that by just going ahead and signing him to a one-year deal. Multiple reports peg the value of that deal at $715,000.

Pascoe’s mostly been a blocker in his four years with the team, compiling 26 catches for 252 yards and a touchdown over that period. He should return to that role, even if Martellus Bennett leaves as a free agent. Travis Beckum has been hurt more than healthy throughout his time with the Giants and the team would be looking for a starter with a larger skillset than Pascoe.

They will resign Bennett – Eli and the coaches like him, he blocks very well, and he had good production in the redzone. This is what the Giants look for in their TEs.

Shaun Rogers is a beast. When he was in Cleveland he was always blocking field goals.

Yea I think they keep Bennett. I think he is a great pickup and I hope he gets even more targets next season.

Having both Bennett and Pascoe and Austin/Joseph/Rogers at DT makes me think the Giants are looking for a CB/S, DE or O-line help in the draft this year. At least in the 1st couple rounds. Having an aggressive physical CB like a Richard Sherman or Janoris Jenkins would solve so many damn problems on defense.

Jeebus! Didn’t Shaun Rogers play with Eric Metcalf in ’89?

We need a Sherman/Browner type of CB.
    Big & physical.

DOnt get me started that I do think the majority of our problems are Perry NOT CALLING BUMP MAN COVERAGE with blitzing.

We keep playing that 6 yards off zone crap and giving up the slants/underneath routes.
How good can a defense be when every 2nd/3rd down is 2 or 3 yards to go!!??

    BRING BACK SPAGS!!!
