It’s been a hell of a run for the Pats, one HELL of a run.

It’s really easy to see them falling bad in the near future though, bad like they were for decades before this run.

This looks like a major crash and burn coming soon.

i agree with these players have to get paid while they can in the nfl, but they complain about other sections of the team arent holding up their parts cause usually they have to fill those spots with new draft picks or undrafted free agent pick ups to fill those positions out cause they are taking up so much of the cap, seen it all the time with my colts, pm18 and other got the big money and they band-aided all the other positions

The Pats have 106.4 million comitted to 37 players in 2014. That makes it a litte difficult to sign Welker, Talib, and Volmer. At least man up and admit the cap situation sucks, or be a tool and pick another team to make an excuse for the Pats.

The missing part of this article is that those 3 guys may be 35% but the remainder of the team is also lower paid then many teams, so they become a higher percentage. Those 3 guys have to be paid or you have no team at all.

As a Colts fan, this seems pretty normal to me.

A lot of players that would have helped the Colts were lost as a Cap Casualty over the Manning years. I look back at players like Mike Peterson that went on to the Jaguars and killed it there, or a Jake Scott…etc. One problem with having those few high priced superstars is you lose the pieces they will need around them to assure dominance. If Brady, Mankins, and Wilford would take 5 mil. per year … The Patriots could keep the above average players at many other positions.

Can’t blame them though, you have to get what you can get when you can get it. No different than Joe Me.

Non-story. There’s still plenty of cap left for them, and when it does go up they’ll have even more left. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see Tom Brady restructure, since he seems to do that every year anyways

This is only 3 players. The Patriots as a team are $13 Million under the cap. The Ed Reed stuff is overblown because even at 13M under, the Pats have some important free agents of their own.

Flacco deserves to be paid market value. He’s inconsistent in the regular season but he’s money in the playoffs, and not just this year. The Ravens however, have some serious cap issues. Lucky for them they have Ozzie Newsome, and he’ll manage it as well as anyone can.

He took a reduced rate in his last contract, with the feeling that the money saved would be used to ensure a high talent level around him. When D Branch and others left for salary reasons he went for market value in his current contract. Hard to blame him.
