Eagles announce full coaching staff

We now know all the members of Chip Kelly’s first staff with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Eagles made the announcement on Friday of the men who will be working under the new head coach in Philadelphia. Many of the names were already reported over the last month, including offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur and defensive coordinator Billy Davis, but the Eagles had not confirmed the hires until Friday.

One new name did emerge among the expected announcements. John Lovett will make the leap from the University of Cincinnati to the Eagles to serve as their defensive backs coach, the same role he held at Texas Tech last season before briefly joining the staff of the Bearcats. Lovett has also served as defensive coordinator at several colleges, including Auburn, Clemson and Cincinnati.

The rest of the staff looks like this: Dave Fipp (special teams), Greg Austin (assistant offensive line), Jerry Azzinaro (defensive line/assistant head coach), Bob Bicknell (wide receivers), Erik Chinander (assistant defensive line), Mike Dawson (defensive quality control), Matt Harper (assistant special teams), Josh Hingst (strength and conditioning), Shaun Huls (sports science coordinator), Bill Lazor (quarterbacks), Todd Lyght (assistant defensive backs), Bill McGovern (outside linebackers), Rick Minter (inside linebackers), Justin Peelle (assistant tight ends), Duce Staley (running backs), Jeff Stoutland (offensive line), Press Taylor (offensive quality control), Ted Williams (tight ends).

  1. The way Chip Kelly’s teams never really block well for the QB, Vick may end up dead on the field.

  2. This is a laughable staff assembled by a laughable organization. That city gets what it deserves.

  3. As I read all these names I said to myself “Please Please Please keep Duce on the staff”

Just remember when Andy hired his first staff every Eagles fan thought.. “Wait who the hell is Andy Reid and all these nobodies?”

I thought they got Bama’s guy for the offensive line though? I thought his name was something else.

  4. Two years ago, the Eagles hired all these high-profile coaches. Fans and media alike were commending them for their choices. Well, there was no chemistry and the team fell apart under the weight of their own lofty expectations.

Now, they hire a staff of hungry but unknown football minds and the fans and media alike are up-in-arms about the fact that there are no “names” being hired.

If you don’t learn from your failed past, you’re doomed to repeat it. It appears as though the Eagles have learned. Time will tell.

  5. Well, can’t turn out any worse than the Eagles last two seasons where they had a bunch of well known and well respected coaches in the league who have all already found work with other teams.

  6. John Lovitz is a great actor. he’ll be a welcome addition to the team.

Oh wait you say it’s John Lovette. Oh-never heard of him.

This looks like a sloppy mess. They hired the d-coordinator after hiring the def staff again. didn’t they learn from last year.

  7. benroethlisberger7 – You dont know anything about most of these guys, stop pretending. Its a shame that your decent franchise there is stuck in your second rate city. Also, why would you chose to use a rapist’s name for your handle? Just curious…

Enjoy the agony of Pat Shurmur, Eagles fans.

Thanks. He was with the Eagles for Reid’s first 10 seasons. The years we enjoyed. The last 4 were agony. Enjoy the agony of Joe Banner.

The problem isn’t “who are these nobodies?”

Rather, it’s “Why are we hiring these people who have already been given opportunities and repeatedly failed?”

  10. The Browns defense was up and commin under Davis..but offensive genius Pat Shurmur is not..maybe he’s a better Coordinator then head coach..we’ll see Philly is too talented on both sides of the ball to play the way they playd..as are the Steelers and we self-distructed..I see bounce back seasons for both teams..but Eagles better keep Mike Vick..Nick Foles ain’t the answer especially for a Chip Kelly system..Can you say Gino Smith? or Maybe Dennis Dixon untill Vicks contract is up

The “city” gets what it deserves? Even the non-football fans? man you must have gotten beat up one too many times in philly to be that sour and full of hate. People like you are not football fans but rather trolls that sprew garbage on forums. and FYI: Pittsburgh is awful, I use to live there and moved fairly quickly do to all the idiots that live there (like you). It’s a boring place to be and a second rate city.

  12. WOW what an outstanding staff these guys are the primo coaches in all of football. Yeah I really don’t have a clue about most of these guys but neither do the clowns complaining about them. SHUT UP and give them a chance.

  13. Failure as an NFL coach is inevitable. Even the best coaches eventually get fired, and in a case like Billy Davis, you never know exactly what the talent level is that they got to work with.

You can’t rate any staff one way or the other. It needs a full season before anyone can second guess any of these hires. Chances are some of them will work out, while others will not (ex. Schiano in Tampa Bay changing his staff around this offseason)

Just stop right there okay? Nick Foles IS THE ANSWER. He’s not on your team so all you hear and see are the negative things. He was a first year rookie thrown into the starting lineup half way through the season with no practise with the starters. The fact that he played better and better each game was nothing but a positive sign. The fact that he can pick up the playbook and read it for 5 minutes and put it down and run every single play out of memory is nothing short of impressive. He will be the guy next year and he’s going to make all the doubters cringe.

Sports Science Coordinator? That’s a thing?

    ============================

a more macho name for team dietitian or atleast that’s what I believe I was reading on him

  16. Noway Chip Kelly starts Nick Foles..unless he throws out his entire philosophy. But if he plans on runnin that read-option like he did in Oregon best believe Foles won’t be a part of that. I Didn’t say the kid can’t play..Eagles better worry about that awful overpaid overrated defense 1st.

You hit the nail on the head, skoodsports. Us fans pretend to know who is a good coach and who is a bad coach, when in reality only Chip Kelly and other great NFL minds understand who are the real coaching talents around the football world.

  18. You know the team gets a mulligan anyway. I thought two years ago the best moves we made were Washburn and Mudd. Then they both employ systems that didnt fit the players or just didnt work period. Too set in their old ass ways to adapt. Im still upset at Castillo for not whippin Washes old ass for callin him Jaunita in front of the players. Any real Latino woulda left that old crotchety deuce lookin up at the ceiking tiles wonderin who let the lil birdies in. Eagles Fans lets give them a chance. I wasnt impressed wit Billy Davis but I dont want seconds on that crow either.

  19. Thats it. There needs to be a Rooney Rule for offensive coordinators. Fritz Shurmurs nephew has failed on two teams as an offensive coordinator with 1st round QB’s on both teams yet somehow gets someone else to hire him to try it again. how does that work? What was the point of crawling from Philly to arizona and then to Oregan to get this innovative offensive genius if his offense is going to be run by a guy who couldn’t get a productive running game out of Steven Jackson, Payton Hillis and Trent Richardson?
