Contracts are always honored. But fans have a mistaken idea of what a contract is.

A contract in the NFL is NOT a guarantee of a job. It is a negotiation for the rights to a player for X years, and the cost of those rights. In no way is a team obligated to keep those rights. Choosing not to do so is not a failure to “honor the contract”.

One who wants to win and honor the contract they signed? Signing a contract for, say, 3 years, and leaving after year 1 kind of defeats the purpose of a contract, doesn’t it?
