APThe Dallas Cowboys signed defensive tackle Nick Hayden and guard Charlie Bryant to futures contracts on Monday.
Until the new league year begins and free agents can officially be signed on March 12, teams are only allowed to sign players to futures contracts
Hayden is a four-year NFL veteran that has appeared in 28 games and made 13 starts during time spent with the Cincinnati Bengals and Carolina Panthers. Hayden was released by the Bengals in training camp and did not play in the league last season.
Hayden is likely insurance for the uncertain status of Josh Brent and Jay Ratliff. Brent faces charges for intoxication manslaughter after the December accident that claimed the life of teammate Jerry Brown. Ratliff was arrested in January for drunk driving.
Bryant has spent time with the San Diego Chargers practice squad the last two seasons.

. Show some class and cut Ratliff. he’s overpaid anyway. obviously we’re talking jerry jones so it ain’t gonna happen- but I bet Steven would.
Could ya’ll do an article explaining futures contracts?
Thank you.
Jeruah, when will you stop embarrassing the fans of Dallas? As a lifelong fan I can recall when the Cowboys were called America’s Team and most people agreed, not make jokes and laugh at the owner.
Even Tho I Dallas needs Defensive Lineman I think its time for Ratliff to Make moves also no reason to get caught drinking and driving after Josh Brent Incident!!!
We did the same thing last year. Why do we keep picking up the Bengals garbage? Since when did the Bengals have the best talent?
It appears Jerry and his “mini me” Stephen can only shop for players from the Benglas and Panthers. Last season they picked up guards Livings from the Bengals and Bernadeau from the Panthers. Both were busts. Com’ on man.
