Percy might as well get out of MN while he's still young. He shouldn't waste most of his career here like KG did. All MN teams are cursed ever since that "Joe Smith under the table deal" went bad. Matter of fact AP might as well leave after his contract is up too! I'm a die hard Vikings/T-wolves fan but it is what it is...obviously the only athletes in MN that brings home the Gold is the women/Lynx...

What still cracks me up is how some people get on Harvin for "how often he plays". Prior to this injury which would put many players out especially if they need their ankles to be efficient, Harvin only missed 3 games in his career since 2009. THREE. That's all. Everyone makes it sound like the guy is out half the time. He's not. 3 games in 3 years is not alot. Get off his case about not playing because it simply is not true.

Who are these people claiming Percy as injury prone? He's missed many a practice but are they unaware that prior to this aberrant season, he has missed 3 games total in his career? Furthermore, suggesting he's worth a mere 2nd or 3rd round draft pick is simply ignorant. Prior to injury this season (and AP's ascension to beast mode), he was a serious contender in the MVP race, and arguably the most dangerous offensive weapon not only in Minnesota but in the NFL. He's a threat to score on any given play in the pass, run, and return game. Anything less than a 1st and a 4th would be poor trade. He really, really pissed me off this year...but pay that man his money and move on.

I like Harvin as a player. Great hands, explosive speed...someone you need to game plan against. However he is a headcase and that is a major distraction for the Vikes.

The vikings have a lot of needs and current projections have them 16 million under the cap for 2013. This is a tough one....but I think I make him play out the final year of his contract. He is disgruntled, alienated his teammates by his tirade against Leslie Frazier and misses a lot of time. Put that $16 Million to work brining in additional talent and you can always franchise tag him next year if necessary.

This is exactly why Percy Harvin will end up being traded. The Vikes can't afford to give $10mil money to a guy that's production we don't need due to another guy already getting paid $10+mil on their roster.
Percy Harvin and Adrian Peterson are two great players. Both of them need to get the ball a lot to be effective because they both grind down defenses, and defenders hate tackling them. The more touches, the more effective they get (Percy is unlike Randy Moss in his prime, a different type of electric player that only needed 5 touches in a game to be deadly). Percy is basically a RB at the WR position. He's a ball control guy through the air. He doesn’t drop passes, and is the best in the league after the catch. This, in turn, is why these two actually work against each other in a lot of ways.
2011: Adrian Peterson gets hurt. After that, Percy started going nuts. In the 10 games Adrian played 4 quarters, Percy averaged 59.6 YPG. In the 6 games Adrian didn't play a full game, Percy averaged 119.3 YPG. The numbers are night and day.
2012: Adrian Peterson is slow at the beginning of the season, and Percy picked up the slack in a big way. Second half of the year, Percy Harvin is gone, then Adrian's numbers start going through the roof, including all 3 of his 200 yard games. In the 9 games Percy played this year, Adrian averaged 106 YPG. In the 7 Percy didn't play, Adrian averaged 163 YPG.
The average NFL offense gets 60 plays on offense in a game. With Percy Harvin and Adrian Peterson, you ideally would like to get Adrian 30 touches and Percy 15 touches. The fact is is defenders are too good in the NFL, and running 75% of an offense through two guys just doesn't work. Someone isn't going to hit their numbers, or the Vikings will be running the most predictable offense ever ran. You need to have more mystery than that.
You don't pay two guys 10+ million to cut into each other, especially if without one, the one 10+mil guy can provenly pick up the slack where the other is missing. The Vikes save 10mil by letting Percy go, with losing minimal value when Adrian's healthy, and gain a few top 3 round picks in the process.

Vikings just need to deal with it one way or the other quickly. The last thing you want is for the situation to sour and end up in a position where you can't undo and "unsay" what you have said.

"As a Viking fan, the team either needs to pay him or trade him. Letting him go to free agency after next season with nothing in return would be the biggest mistake."

The reality is, if he hold out, he'll never hit free agency. And even if he comes back in time (so that his last year of his contract actually counts towards free agency), we can always tag him.

He has no leverage, and I seriously doubt we'd ever allow him to go for nothing.

Nobody is going to trade a 1st for Harvin. Period. You don’t trade a 1st for an oft-injured, chemistry-questionable slot receiver.

Two 2nds, ala Brandon Marshall, maybe. BIG maybe. More like a 3rd and a conditional pick.

Harvin is dangerous, but, like Tedd Ginn, he was way over-drafted.
----------------------------------------------------
Harvin was R.O.Y. and a pro bowler his rookie year, how the hell was he over- drafted????THis kid was a MVP talent before he got hurt, he is well worth the money. You put him in the slot and give him a qb and he will destroy. Imagine him taking Wes Welker's spot in NE, with Brady at qb. He is like Welker accept waaay stronger, faster, and meaner..That chip he has on his shoulder, comes out every game, on the field

I called this yesterday, there is no way he wants to stay in Minnesota with a QB that throws like a girl. So he holds out hoping for a trade.

Trades are tough to pull off in today's NFL and even harder when the player you want to trade is viewed as a diva. The Vikings are basically screwed so its just a question of how much can they get and anybody hoping for anything higher than a third rounder simply doesn't understand the concept of leverage, or in the Vikings case, lack thereof.

Here's the only thing I have about the situation. The Vikings want/need a big time #1 receiver for their offense, not the Percy is not good I think his skill set is very valuable, but the Vikings cannot pay him 10Mil a year and afford to go after another #1 type receiver. If they can get him to sign a deal that makes sence that they could keep him and go after another #1 type receiver that would be the best situation, but if they can't I do feel they go after a big guy target in free agency and then settling with Jerius Wright to fill in for Percy (Jerius is a legimate replacement but you do definately go backwards in the slot position) - maybe getting some picks later could turn out - I think it all comes down to if the guys go after a big name wide receiver in free agency and get him, and if they do I think Harvin is gone... Harvin would be a beast in a system like New England or anywhere with a great #1 receiver already..

I don't think there is a team with a bigger need than WR, and legitimately "(1) player away" than the Houston Texans.

As a Texans fan, I'd trade our 27th overall and sign him to a longterm deal. If a deal can't be reached, I'd be willing to trade a 2nd and make a run at the Superbowl even if we lose him after 1 year.

Texans won't find a more dynamic receiver in the draft at 27th spot who needs to be a contributer this coming year.

Surprise me Texans... Let's make a deal! If we don't, Patriots will.

8,,,,,,,count em,,,,,,,,,,,,,8 figures a year. It's been nice having Harvin on the team. You can't go 10+ a year with a guy that looks like a pin ball on every play and hates his current team, QB and coaches.

I have to admit Percy has turned into one of my favorite players to watch but he has an attitude towards his own team and coaches that is alarming.

Don't think I don't realize Harvin will blow up for whoever he plays for next year but if he wants to go what good is keeping him.

"Vikings should trade Harvin for Fitzgerald, Arizona gets a top tier fast Wide Reciever and Vikings get the true #1 downfield threat reciever they need..makes sense for both teams"

Please tell me your're kidding. When has Harvin showed he can stay healthy consistently and perform anywhere near what Fitz does EVERY year?

It's a double-whammy for a team trading for him and that's what makes anything happening unlikely.
Like the Mike Wallace situation, TEAM X will likely have to give up a reasonably high pick and then enough long-term dollars to make him happy.
Then there's taking into account his history of injuries and migraines. Thinking a WR of his quality will be looking for $8M+ per season.
I'd be shocked if any team agreed to this.
