Mardy Gilyard lands in Kansas City

Andy Reid is taking another look at wide receiver Mardy Gilyard.

Gilyard, who spent most of last year playing (or, more accurately, riding the bench) for Reid in Philadelphia, has landed in Kansas City: The NFL’s transactions wire listed the Chiefs signing Gilyard as a move that became official today.

Gilyard is a talented athlete who started his college career as a cornerback and was later chosen to All-American teams at both wide receiver and kickoff returner, but he’s never been able to put it all together in the NFL. He was a 2010 fourth-round pick of the Rams but caught just six passes in St. Louis before he was cut, then he barely played in his time with the Eagles and caught only two passes after landing with the Jets.

Despite the lack of production, Gilyard must have shown enough in practice in Philadelphia that Reid wants to see what he can do in Kansas City.

I think Gilyard was willing to do anything the Eagles asked him last year. He wasn’t a huge impact in the stats department, but he showed up and was willing to get his nose dirty on special teams. One of the few bright spots on that team in my opinion.

A talented KR and PR in college. That’s what they are hoping he can be in KC.

Good kid, doesn’t cause trouble, has tons of talent. He’s an upgrade from what the Chiefs have at WR.

Mardy Gras was outstanding for the Bearcats teaming up with Tony Pike, although neither has done much of anything in NFL! Hope to see Gilyard do something for the Chiefs!

I’m sure Dwayne Bowe is looking over his shoulder.

Almost anyone can try out for the Chiefs at this point. Freddie Mitchell may be next?

Released players are allowed to interview with other teams…But free agents for 2013 class wont begin till March 12th. Because those free agents are still consider as the member of the team that they are with.

For example…Dwayne Bowe is a free agent. But teams cant contact him till March 12th. If they do then the Chiefs find out them they could file a tampering claim against the team who tried to contact that player

another example. The Kansas City Chiefs cant contact Greg Jennings till March 12th. If they do. Then the Packers could file a tampering claim against the Chiefs and the Chiefs could end up losing draft picks for doing so.

Its like Kansas city doesn’t realize theyre supposed to sign good players to make the team better. signing hims just a waste of money

As a fellow UC alum, I am always rooting for Mardy. He was electrifying in college, but may be too frail for the NFL.
