AP‘Tis the season to sign spare punters and kickers for offseason cover, and the Browns are in on it too.
According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, they signed former camp-hand Spencer Lanning Wednesday.
Lanning was in training camp with them last year, but could carve out a more permanent role since incumbent punter Reggie Hodges is slated to become an unrestricted free agent.
The former South Carolina standout kicked and punted in college. Lanning also did time with the Jets and Jaguars and the UFL last year.

Hodges was a beast (for a punter) but shredded his Achilles early on last year and hasn’t been the same. Now that he’s a UFA he’ll be a Ray Guy for some division rival I’m sure.
Last year as in 2011…
Super bowl baby…its all comin together. This signing is gonna be clevelands Reggie White to Green Bays keystone move….u watch
I like this kid!
Hodges is awesome. I hope they end up keeping him. I remember him running a fake-punt for like 80 yards a couple years ago.
You guys are crazy. If Hodges was even average last year he would have made a difference in at least two losses.
Better enjoy this one while you can Cleveland! This maybe the hallmark signing of the off-season for the Banner-Lombardi regime!
