Panthers taking public money, but not more ticket money

Panthers owner Jerry Richardson is in Raleigh today, finalizing plans to accept public money for upgrades to Bank of America Stadium.

The good news is he’s not asking his customers for any more of theirs.

Team president Danny Morrison told Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer the team would not raise ticket prices.  It’s the third straight offseason the Panthers have held the line on costs.

Prior to that, the Panthers had raised prices eight of the previous 11 years, traditionally announcing the hike the weekend of the ACC basketball tournament, when their fans’ attention was diverted.

Team officials swear it’s a coincidence that the bills went out in mid-March, it just so happened to fall on a Friday when basketball that brings North Carolina to a standstill was being played.
