The Seattle Seahawks officially announced the additions of defensive line coach Travis Jones and Nick Sorensen as a coaching assistant and special teams coach on Wednesday.
Jones’ addition had been expected for two weeks while Sorensen is a new addition to the Seahawks coaching staff.
“Travis is an outstanding coach,” defensive coordinator Dan Quinn said of Jones in a statement released by the team. “He’s got energy out on the practice field and is a good teacher. I’ve always thought he did an excellent job in preparing his guys. We are fortunate to have him here and I couldn’t be more thrilled knowing he’s a guy who sees it exactly like I do.”
In addition, the Seahawks adjusted the roles of several coaches already on staff. Dave Canales will become an assistant quarterbacks coach in addition to his duties as offensive quality control coach. Nate Carroll, the youngest son of Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll, moves from a defensive assistant to offensive assistant and Marquand Manuel joins the defensive coaching staff as a defensive assistant after serving as an assistant special teams coach last season.
Seattle also announced they have signed cornerback/kick returner Will Blackmon on Wednesday. Blackmon spent last season with the Arizona Rattlers of the Arena Football League. Prior to that, Blackmon spent two seasons with the New York Giants and four seasons with the Green Bay Packers.
Blackmon has appeared in 43 games in six seasons in the NFL. He’s made 49 tackles and has returned three punts for touchdowns.
