Comparing Richard Mann to either Dick Vermeil or Dick LeBeau is only a little pathetic.
Dick LeBeau is a coaching legend who has been in the league only about 50 consecutive seasons without interruption. His defenses have been ranked No. 1 five times since 2004.
Richard Mann: Not so much.
Other than that, comparing Mann to LeBeau makes perfect sense…

ravenator/ Mann once coached the Ravens wide receivers, so he must be a great coach, if he worked for your mighty Ravens, right ravenator, plus most coaches are out of work, before they are hired. i.e. Jim Caldwell, who you ravenator are in love with and all over his man parts.

With age comes wisdom. Also, I think it helps at times to be away from the game because you don’t have tunnel vision from being with one team. He’s been able to scout other teams and players for the positives and negatives.

Dick Vermeil was away from football for awhile and led a bad Rams team to the Superbowl.

Time will tell.

Since Tomlin worked with Mann in Tampa for four seasons, he probably didn’t have to stew for days to know what kind of coach the guy is. And since Dick LeBeau is 75, the Steelers don’t assume older coaches have nothing to offer.

But then I don’t scrutinize every Tomlin decision for evidence that he’s incompetent and should be fired. Since the receivers didn’t perform up to par last season, it’s good we’ve made a change. If Mann works well with Haley and can bring discipline to the receiving corps, it’s a good hire.

A 65-year-old who hasn’t coached anywhere in the NFL since 2009? Wow!!! Obviously Tomlin put a lot thought into this hire.
