Getty ImagesCam Cameron has no hard feelings toward the man who fired him two months ago.
Cameron, who was fired as the Ravens’ offensive coordinator by head coach John Harbaugh just before the Ravens went on their late-season run to the Super Bowl, says he still feels warmly toward Harbaugh. In fact, Cameron said at his introductory press conference as LSU’s new offensive coordinator that that he loves Harbaugh.
“The past five years with John Harbaugh, I would not trade for anything in the world,” Cameron said. “We’re still great friends to this day. When you love somebody, it’s easy to just look at each other in the eye and know that we love each other unconditionally. We understand how things in football, or just things in general can play out, but it is an opportunity of a lifetime to work with people you care about. There’s no downside to it in my mind because the relationship still always trumps anything. For me, my family, it doesn’t get any better than this.”
Cameron has always run a pro-style offense, and he has conservative offensive roots, having come up as an assistant to the old-school Michigan coach Bo Schembechler. But he said he’s excited about the way offenses are evolving in college.
“How can you not be in love with the direction the college game is going?” Cameron said. “I marvel at what’s being done in college football. What a great game. The game is getting better and better. It’s a little interesting to watch the National Football League now really evolve more and more from the college game.”
It will be interesting to see whether Cameron can evolve at the college level. In the NFL, his inability to adapt led to his firing by a great friend.
