APAfter purging several veterans from their roster this month, the Buffalo Bills appear set on trying to keep at least one in town for next season.
Per John Wawrow of the Associated Press, the Bills are expected to meet with Byrd at the NFL combine in Indianapolis to discuss a possible new contract to remain in Buffalo.
The second-team All-Pro is expected to become an unrestricted free agent on March 12. Per Wawrow, the Bills have not yet had any formal negotiations on a new deal with Byrd and the team has not yet discussed whether to place the franchise tag on him either.
The franchise tag designation would guarantee Byrd somewhere in the neighborhood of $6 million for next season if the Bills elected to use it.
Byrd started all 16 games for Buffalo this season. He made 76 tackles with five interceptions and four forced fumble for the Bills.

Byrd is pecking the Bills for more food.
I don’t think there is any doubt the Bills will keep Byrd & Levitre. Besides Spiller and Johnson, those are their best 2 young players that have already shown more than simply potential.
Gotta get this deal done!
Get their fans favorite Jairus Byrd sign Budd Nix,to a seven or eight years contract…. #Byrd the word
Why can’t the media leave this alone?…. It’s not news anymore until something actually happens
Get it done! Soon!
This should be a no brainer. Sign him long term immediately.
Byrd started all 16 games for Buffalo this season. He made 76 tackles with 5 interceptions and four forced fumble for the Bills.
Sean Smith has 5 career INT’s, this guy is worth a big contract. Take some notes Sean Smith, play like this and you’ll get paid…..
I would love to see the Bengals try and make a push for Jairus. The Bengals need a Safety bad. Good ole’ Mikey Boy (Mike Brown) won’t even consider it though. Even with them being $55 mill under the cap.
Keep the man in buffalo!!!
I’d they don’t tag him or sign him before free agency they will lose him. The tag at around $6M is a no brainer.
Pay the man!! He’s one of the few bright spots of our team!!!
He will be looking for Weddle money as he should. Very good player on a bad team. Does his father proud.
Lock him up and tag Levitre.
Six years for 34.5 million with 17 million guaranteed. This has to get done! We can’t lose the Byrd man, hes been the focal point on this defense since being drafted. I have a feeling Levitre ends up walking though, I just don’t think he wants to be a Buffalo Bill. Although I think Levitre is worth no more than six mill a year… He can get top five guard money on the market.
@jcheng
Actually, if we’re using the tag, I’d rather see Bryd get it. Levitre will get Tackle money on the tag, but it had better not even get to that point.
