Bills curious to hear what Te’o has to say for himself

Each team at the Combine gets to schedule 60 college players for formal interviews this week.

The Bills, like most, want to hear exactly what Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o was thinking.

Bills assistant general manager Doug Whaley told Tim Graham of the Buffalo News that Te’o would be one of their 60 interviews, and that the drama about his fake dead girlfriend will probably come up during the course of the conversation.

Everybody’s going to ask him about that drama, but it’s just going to be a piece of the puzzle,” Whaley said. “We’ll treat it independently, just like we’ll treat the other 59 guys who might have issues or might not have issues.

“This is one of the things we’re here for, to fact-find about all that stuff. . . . We’ll try to get as much information as possible out of it.”

The Bills certainly have a need for help at linebacker, after releasing leading tackler Nick Barnett. But while the eighth overall pick won’t be the neighborhood Te’o hears his name called, the Bills will likely have to think about it beginning with the 41st overall pick.

While the whole fake dead girlfriend story is salacious (also lewd, lascivious and outrageous), the greater concern to NFL teams is the way he played in the BCS title game.

Whether the off-field drama caused him to play like just a guy, or whether he’s just a guy is something teams will try to determine through their research this week and beyond.

If Manti runs a sub 4.6 40 everyone will quickly forget about that vapor girlfriend of his. And after a month in the NFL he’ll have a real one.

This dude is getting thrown into an ice bath no matter which team drafts him.

He will not be around at 41. So why waste a interview.

And you wonder why the Bills do not circle the wagon anymore.

They want to ask so they have funny stories for boring Christmas parties.

people like to confuse production with talent. He was a ver productive lb playing behind a very solid d-line that overmatched a majority of their opponents. Because he was a 5 star guy out of hs, its hard to say he’s overrated but I don’t think he was a first rounder even before we found out how stupid he is. But what do I know, I only went 19-0 en route to a second consecutive superbowl in Madden

I’m still on the fence about Te’o. I’m not sure if he is just a confused kid with too much on his plate or he is just plain dumb? I do know he is an excellent Linebacker that will do well at the NFL level. The biggest question is: will Te’o cause a major distraction on whatever team decides to draft him? His biggest downfall for sure.

I want to hear what he has to say too. I wonder how he is doing with all of this media attention, and for the most part, not good attention.

Way too small to play linebacker. Make him get faster and play strong safety

  9. medialovesthecowboys says: Feb 20, 2013 8:42 PM

Fact is he looked average at best in the biggest game if his career. And he’s from Notre Dame, so lets be honest most of us want him to fail.

It’s not like that fake girlfriend stuff isn’t common, there’s a whole show on MTV dedicated to that type of tomfoolery..

As long as the kid didn’t fake s talent I’m sure it won’t be a issue for any team out there

Really? MAKE him get faster? You can’t teach speed, my friend. And as far as size goes, guys like Sam Mills & London Fletcher would probably disagree with your assessment of linebacker size requirements.

I feel for whom ever drafts this clown. He should be fired for drafting this no talent bum.

He’s a lock to play on Cards. They know more about him than any other team

The Captain with a fake girlfriend going to a city with a fake franchise? This is too much.

I hear hear he reeeeeally wants to play for San Francisco

  16. rcali says: Feb 20, 2013 9:35 PM

As long as he doesn’t have to play against any players from Alabama, he should be fine.

T’eo is allowed a pretend girlfriend because emotionally he is about nine. Like Newton. Doesn’t hurt their on field performance that much. You just cringe a bit when they get up in front of a mike.

This would be the perfect pick for the Bills at #8. You see we have a marketing guy running the show here and this draft pick is already seen major press time , sure it wasn’t for football but when you have a marketing guy running things that is how it works

  19. charger383 says: Feb 20, 2013 11:10 PM

too much of a sideshow clown

  20. mackcarrington says: Feb 20, 2013 11:17 PM

He’ll be alright as long as his next fake girlfriend doesn’t say that she is from Buffalo.

  21. tubal22 says: Feb 20, 2013 11:52 PM

Jets should draft him. Sanchez needs a shoulder to cry on.

  22. raiderinva says: Feb 20, 2013 11:56 PM

He is the almost out of the closet Tim Tebow on defense.

The headache is not worth the draft pick. Just like Tiger Woods, not the same after the huge personal stuff broke out.

I am tired of hearing about him, and I hope that the Jets draft him at #9 overall as the cornerstone to the future.

  23. vincentbojackson says: Feb 21, 2013 12:16 AM

Who cares about the fake girlfriend story?

I saw everything I needed to see when he was repeatedly getting run over in the Alabama game.

God, if you exist, please do not inflict this overhyped POS on the long-suffering fans of the Bills. And for the sake of fans of the NFL, don’t send him to New England, either NY team, or Dallas, lest we never hear the end of the “redemption” stories.

  25. bills4 says: Feb 21, 2013 12:39 AM

He is over rated as a player and way over rated in the IQ category……. Please buffalo, stay away from this basket case!

  26. flipola says: Feb 21, 2013 1:10 AM

That pic is his reaction to the thought of having to play for the Bills.

  27. j4man1 says: Feb 21, 2013 7:31 AM

I’m pretty sick of what he has to say for himself. Hey juiceboxsupply, your mother must be so proud.

  28. exboomer says: Feb 21, 2013 8:22 AM

Te’o is going to have to live with the media BS until he proves himself in the NFL. It isn’t fair but that’s life today in America. I wouldn’t be opposed to having the Bills draft him in the second or third rd if he falls that far.

  29. granadafan says: Feb 21, 2013 1:01 PM

It’ll be interesting to see how he handles multiple different interviews without his spin doctor handlers present to coach him for the right answers. He’s had a couple months to practice the lies (he’s good at it) fed to him by his agents about what to say. He’ll get tripped up due to his low IQ. He has that deer in headlights look to him. Major major red flags.

Oddly enough I lost a parent to leukemia so, for me at least, this story hits home a little more and angers me a little more because I know what it is like to watch someone you love lose their battle. That being said, I don’t like the idea of him coming here. I think he is a so-so talent anyway and not worth the circus that would come with drafting him.
