Jets will shop Tebow at Scouting Combine

AP

It’s no surprise that the Jets are done with quarterback Tim Tebow.  It will be a major surprise if they get anything in return for the remainder of his 2010 first-round contract.

Still, they’ll try.  Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com reports that the Jets will shop Tebow at the Scouting Combine.

The Jets gave up a fourth-round pick and a sixth-rounder for Tebow and a seventh-rounder last March.  And then the Jets barely used him.

With the proliferation of mobile quarterbacks, someone should give Tebow a chance to be Tebow, like the Broncos did in 2011.  He’s better than plenty of players who currently are employed as NFL quarterbacks.

And arguably better than a few of them who start for their teams.

  1. He may be more athletic than some of the quarterbacks that start for other teams, but not since Jamarcus Russell played for Oakland have I seen a less accurate passer.

  2. I don’t care how bad this guy is. He deserves better than this. You don’t toy with a man’s career. Do him a favor and send him to a team that will groom him as a QB.

  3. The perfect place for Tebow would be backing up Kaepernick in San Fran. Remember, Kaepernick wasn’t the most polished QB coming out of college just like Tebow wasn’t. Yet Jim Harbaugh was able to turn Colin into an accurate NFL QB. I’m not saying that he could make Tebow as good as Kaepernick but I do think if anyone could get the best out of Tim Tebow then it would be Jim Harbaugh.

  4. Tebow throws a higher percentage of long passes than anyone else in the league since he has been here. It isn’t even close. Naturally you’re going to have a lower completion rate, but his career passer rating is as good as Bradford’s from that draft I think.

  5. I’ve followed most every game in his pro career, and I can’t tell you the amount of times I have seen him hit the recievers in the numbers……..and they dropped it.

What a waste of talent. I hope someone picks him up. I am sure he’ll make a positive influence in their offense.

  6. Chip Kelly may want to kick the tires on this guy. With that Oregon-style offense running in the NFL he’s going to blow through about 4 QBs a year.

  7. I am so tired of people citing the “proliferation of mobile QBs” as a reason guys like Tim Tebow should keep getting shots.

There is no “proliferation of mobile QBs”, there is a “proliferation of smart, strong armed, accurate, NFL ready QBs who also happen to be mobile”.

Lumping Tebow in with guys like RGIII, Kaep, Russell Wilson, etc., shows an almost frightening lack of understanding of what is actually going on at the position league wide.

And it certainly is arguable that he is better than any other starting QB in the league. I would certainly argue about that because I can’t think of many NFL starters that Timmy could come close to beating out in a training camp battle.

  8. I’d take him in Philly over Dixon, Vick and Trent Edwards. I have no real opinion on Foles yet, but I know he’s not an option type QB.

  9. It kind of says a lot since Tebow running the ball is their best chance to win.

I mean are they really going into next year with Sanchez tossing to a bunch of no names? With no running backs?

  10. Now I’m confused, and maybe Jets fans have a perspective I am arriving late for. But wouldn’t Tebow make an interesting Pistol Formation consideration? Aren’t those available options to the QB almost exactly his traits? He’s an athlete for sure, but is he really that bad?

Mike, why don’t you look into this and tell us why the Jets aren’t interested and why no other teams seem to be either.

Is it the media circus that follows him? Is he a cancer in the clubhouse despite his faith? Are coaches that reluctant to give him a shot?

This is a results-oriented league and Tebow has 1 more playoff victory than Peyton Manning in the past 3 years.

There’s got to be more to it than the fact that he can’t throw worth a damn. What is it?

  12. Tebow is not that good as a Qb,he is nothing like RG3,Wilson ,Colin .All of them can throw and are pretty accurate and Tebow is not.You will get to see what the NFL thinks of him as a Qb and I do not think it will be good.

  13. There will be a market for Tebow, but no GM is going to trade away a pick for a guy that is obviously going to be released. I’m also not buying that the Jaguars are not interested….not one bit.

  14. There’s no question that his accuracy is lacking but he is better than Mark Sanchez. It would be interesting to see how better/worse the Jets’ record would’ve been with Tebow starting this past season. I really doubt it would’ve been worse and I’ve NEVER seen Tebow fumble because of running into his own lineman’s butt a la Sanchez. He also had to contend with the horrible coaching of Sparano/Ryan. That alone makes me feel for Jets fans. Sparano is gone like he should be but Ryan will stink it up one more year. If not for the fact that Buddy is their dad I don’t think the Ryan brothers would coach past the high school level.

  15. Tebow gets killed by the bleating sheep because he disdains dink and dunk passing. But his style wins more often than not. He buys time to throw bombs down field, and if nothing opens up he throws the ball away. Highest percentage of long passes of anyone in the league, and a low interception rate. Winning record for his career.

Like hell! It may very well be the best place for him, but nobody there wants him and even Jed York said so much

Tim says he is “excited” by this story.

That is because according to Christian beliefs, the employer (Jets, NFL, or any team in the NFL) is the master and employee is the servant and Tebow feels he is to serve and not complain so he takes whatever comes his way.

  18. Even if waived, he would likely not find a spot in the NFL right now. He should go to the CFL and do something there and look to return in 3 or so years. Assuming he does well there……….

Best wishes to a nice fellow. I hope it works out for him at some point.

  19. If tebow didn’t have so many fans calling for him to start as soon as the starter isn’t playing that well he would have a chance to be a backup somewhere. No one is going to bring him in when the media is going to want to interview him over the starter and it’s always going to be a big controversy. So tebow fans should thank themselves for helping ruin his possible career… For the record I don’t think he can play qb in the nfl but he would get a chance if wasnt for his following.

  20. Tebow should just retire. He honestly can do anything else he wants to do, especially in the state of Florida. It’s really a shame what my jets did to him this year. If they wanted to trade him they should’ve started him instead of McElroy at the end of the season so people could actually see what he can do. They’re too good at shooting themselves in the foot. It’s rough being a jets fan.

  21. PLEASE someone trade for him and make him a full time starter so all the speculation about him actually being a decent QB can FINALLY end. He was the beneficiary of a good play by his defense (keeping him in games while he sucked for 3/4 of it) and a ridiculous amount of things going his way (that he had nothing to do with). PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE someone give him another chance so this stupidity can go away forever.

  22. Here’s the thing. People underestimate how good he is in the running game. He typically protects the ball well. He only turns the ball over when he’s trying to do too much. He owns the T.O.P. , and a lot of times he looks grossly inaccurate because he’s too conservative. It’s sad how such a poorly run organization like the Jets can make the status quo forget about things like the playoff game against Pittsburgh.

  23. In 2011, the Broncos went 8-8(Tebow 7-4 as a starter) and got two games into the playoffs. GET TEBOW OUT OF HERE!

In 2011, the Panthers went 6-10 and obviously didn’t make the playoffs. Do you see people clamoring to get rid of Superman? No. In 2012 they only won ONE more game.

In 2011 the Rams went 2-14, and did they get rid of Bradford? No.

In 2012, the Broncos, with Peyton Manning, got ONE game further in the playoffs than they did with Tebow. How did spending that extra 8 billion dollars on Manning work out for you?

I know he’s not the most elite qb in the league, but I will never understand the hate for this kid. Until he starts a full season and flops completely, I won’t be convinced otherwise.

  24. What are they selling. Is there any GM out there who does not know all he needs to know about Tebow?

If you hate him you hate him. If you love him you love him. The most over analysed player in history

  25. IMO we fans and media types have wasted enough time either blasting or rooting for this guy. At what point does a team not pick him up because he is an instant distraction.?

  26. You Tebow haters should understand that he has accomplished in one year of his life more than your entire lives.
Easy to make fun sitting on your couches looking like out of central casting from “The Big Bang Theory”.

They’re hopping to get a combo from Wendy’s but will take a few items off the $.99 menu.

Bet you’re “hopping” to get laughs from that line. If it made any sense, nevermind.

  28. It’s one thing to say Tebow can just “simply run the pistol”. However, you need to be able to throw and not just run the read option. Tebow has shown he can’t throw. Posters should just stop it with the ridiculous “the Jets treated him horribly” comments. He was always a third string QB and they rarely play in this league. They tried him on Wildcat formations, but defenses have wised up to that gimmick. He got to play more than other 3rd stringers, so he should be happy.
