In the end, to me, it is sad that it became a bigger issue than it was all because some cop, out in his plain clothes and from what I’ve read was off duty got into the thick of things and got hit.

If he was in uniform and identifiable as a cop, I agree Dennard should be punished.

If you are in your street clothes and off duty the punishment should be the same as hitting anyone else. At that point he was just hitting some guy and not a ‘cop’.

Yeah right. He didn’t “attack a policeman’ as in leaving his house with the intention of beating a policeman up, tracking one down and doing so.

He was a young man who was out in a bar, a fight happened and in the heat of the moment he hit a guy. Who wasn’t seriously injured. Like thousands of other people do every year and I guarantee you not one of them serves 6 years. And its his first offense.

You’re dreaming if you think he’s going to get 6 years, and I’ve got some other news for you. People have often gotten less time than that for manslaughter, rape and much more heinous things.

Talk about overreacting to something that is no big deal in reality.

That being said, the sentence will probably be in the one to three month range and served at a county facility. He should be out in time for camp. This is assuming however he doesn’t get in any fights with inmates or guards on the inside. He’s a celebrity even on the inside and both inmates and guards will bait him into doing something stupid. It ain’t no day in the park on the inside.
