I agree with this….that has been my thought for awhile now. Even with a few “thumbs down” I think this is a great idea.

It should be added that $2m of Flynn’s base salary is guaranteed. So the Seahawks would be nuts to cut him, as a decent backup is $2-3 million, they have a decent backup at $5.25 million, and if they cut him because of the $2 million guaranteed, they’ll end up paying the same price for a backup who wouldn’t be familiar with the offense or players.

I could see them keeping Flynn on if the teams that have QB needs decide to use high draft picks on young guys and go the route Miami and Seattle went with guys in that in the past may have been people that would have sat on the bench at least a year. If nobody offers anything beyond a 5th round pick for Flynn, it could be argued to him that there’s probably not much more of a chance to start anywhere else because nobody is willing to make an investment to bring him in.

Seahawks will not cut Flynn; period.

They would trade him for the right deal, but with two years to go on his contract, there is no reason to hurry. No cap space issues that would dictate the move. They keep him from going to another NFC West team that would take him in a heart beat, if waived. The total compensation package used at the Team QB position is still much less than many other competitive teams. so again, no hurry.

Flynn will be a Chief next year. People jump to the conclusion that Alex Smith is better, but the reality is no one knows really how good Flynn is – except that EVERY game he has played in he was spectacular.

Smith didn’t play so well at certain points in his career, but he is solid – yet not GREAT.

Flynn “could” be GREAT and we don’t know it.

Not sure it would be wise to hold onto him, simply because paying your #2 guy more than your #1 for two years (or more) could cause a bit of a morale problem. Especially when your #1 played like superman the year before.

The combined salaries for the Seahawks qbs is the LOWEST amount in the entire NFL the Seahawks will not cut him. PERIOD They have cap room and it doesn’t hurt having a guy back up a young star in the making.

Basic logic tells you they won’t just cut him, someone will take a look at him for some decent compensation.

Flynn and Wilson’s 2013 combined salary is still less than Jackson and Whitehurst’s combined salary in 2011.

Seattle is not going to be desperate to move Flynn and they can afford to wait for a good offer.

They’re not paying Russell Wilson anything, why not hold onto Flynn as a back-up in case the unthinkable happens with Wilson for at least another season? It’s a poor draft class for QB’s but who’s going to bust down the door for Flynn this off-season? I don’t see it. I think they hold onto Flynn, they’re in good cap position for the time being…until they have to pay all these guys of course.
