Tampa Bay head coach Greg Schiano was somewhat noncommittal about quarterback Josh Freeman’s future with the team following the Buccaneers 7-9 season.

Despite Freeman passing for 4,065 yards and 27 touchdowns for the Buccaneers last year, Schiano said he needed to evaluate Freeman before saying he would be the team’s starting quarterback next year.

At the NFL combine on Thursday, Schiano said he’d seen enough to know that Freeman is their guy.

“Josh Freeman is our quarterback,” Schiano said, via Marc Sessler of NFL.com. “And I believe that Josh Freeman -- with Josh Freeman -- we’ll be able to accomplish our goals.”

It was the first 4,000 yard season of Freeman’s career but he only completed 54.8-percent of his passes and threw 17 interceptions as well. Whether Freeman will remain in the Buccaneers’ plan after next season is still in question but Freeman should get an opportunity to prove his value this season. Entering the fifth year of his career and second under Schiano, Freeman has a chance to set himself up for a big payday as he will be an unrestricted free agent after next season.
