Getty ImagesIf someone drafts Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein with the intention of making him a tight end, it won’t happen because of his performance at the Scouting Combine in tight end drills.
Klein’s agent, Peter Schaffer, tells PFT that Klein will not be participating in tight end drills in Indianapolis.
So while Klein will be asked to work out with the tight ends, he won’t be accepting the invitation. “Collin is excited to work out as a quarterback to demonstrate to the powers-that-be that he is an NFL quarterback,” Schaffer said.
Eventually, Klein may have to choose between joining the NFL as a tight end or going to another pro football league in order to play quarterback.

Dumb.
I you have no passion for playing TE, then don’t do it. Nothing worse than having a job you don’t want.
Well, there is nothing to say that he would be better as a tight end than as a QB.
Klein won’t do first round draft.
Maybe he should look into it a little more. It can’t hurt him. Only help him.
Meh not really surprising. He wants to play QB let him workout just as a QB. Dont really see the point of going through TE drills where he is just going to look like what he is… a guy who has never played TE before. Wont help his draft stock
LOL
I admittedly didn’t watch Colin AT ALL this year, but can somebody tell me why nobody wants him as a QB?
Be smooth… Be Don Juan De La Nooch
The guy flat out stinks as a QB prospect. Watch the Kansas State Bowl game. He was just abysmal.
Two words for the young man to consider before insisting on being only a QB: Tim Tebow.
“Klein won’t be in the NFL because he wants to be a quarterback when he should be a tight end”
I commend Klein for believing in himself as he should but some one on his staff has to be straight with him about his abilities as a QB. I think has the intelligence but I am not sure if he has the tools as a passer. I guess he can at least try as a QB for the combine and if it fails go to another league and try to sharpen his skills or try in the NFL in another position.
Smart.
Taller Timmy 2.0
They tried to get Colt Brennan to swap positions in the Lingerie Football League but he said no.
Now he’s under a bridge.
jets could use a new QB/H-back/TE. lol.
Question: What team would Tebow be on if he participated in TE drills at the Combine?
Answer: A team that wasn’t willing to trade him at the drop of a hat.
Good luck, Klein.
I guess he doesnt wanna get drafted.
Who cares, he will NEVER AMOUNT TO ANYTHING IN THE NFL!!!!
You could have titled this: Klein won’t be drafted.
“Eventually, Klein may have to choose between joining the NFL as a tight end or going to another pro football league in order to play quarterback.”
How the hell do you know, Florio???
Klein obviously has too much confidence and pride in his QB skills to even contemplate a different position. They tried to turn RG3 into a WR or a CB in college, but he felt he was a QB. While I may believe he is more of a tim tebow type player, only time will tell how if he can morph into an nfl starting QB. Go for it Klein, best of luck.
Undrafted?
Foolish pride
In his college career Collin Klein rushed for twice as many touchdowns as he passed! 56 rushing…30 passing. And he wants to be taken seriously as a quarterback at the NFL level? Even Tim Tebow knows that ain’t gonna happen.
next PFT headline for him:
“Klein goes undrafted”
Tebow 2.0
I don’t know much about the guy, but I guess you are saying there is no way he can ever be good enough to be a 2nd or 3rd string QB in the NFL. Backup QB in the NFL is a pretty great job.
So what makes anyone think he would make it as a TE? He is listed at 225- sounds pretty small to me. Is he some kind of Tebow-esque battering ram? Even in the pass-catching oriented TE offenses, most of those guys are like 6’6 260. Why not FB? Or WR (too slow?).
How unfortunate and short-sighted of Klein. It would seem that he could benefit from some good advice from his agent. A lot of NFL players including Early Doucet and Patrick Peterson played QB early in their career only to find NFL success at another position. I guess Klein hasnt learned anything from Tim Tebow…sad.
He should be willing to take on any challenge as a competitor that is how you show you are willing to do what it takes. Didn’t think he was a total lost cause as a qb he’s not as bad of a thrower as tebow and that’s why he might get a shot in some capacity especially with the lack of impact qbs this year.
But young man show your versatility that’s how you’ll make your way. A backup or even league minimum ain’t a bad gig. Don’t be too prideful and loose any shot u may have.
@clssylssy
I have never called out anyone on a site before but this is too good for me to pass up! You must be an LSU fan (i am) to make that absurd reference. Are you seriously comparing a heisman finalist to 2 guys who never had a chance to play college football as a QB?!?! Wait!!! theres a guy blowing it up as an 8th grade QB this year but he will switch to RB in high school, Klein can definitely learn from him. Way to make fan look short for fanatic!!
I must be old. The first name that popped into my head was Scott Frost.
Rich Gannon was a mid-round choice of the Pats if I remember correctly , and they told him they were going to make him a DB. He told them to stick it. Worked out ok for him, I believe.
that fat ba*tard (before the surgery) Charlie Casserly said the same thing about Seneca Wallace….”if he wants to be a QB he’ll have to go to Canada” when Wallace refused to work out as a WR @ the combine. While Wallace didn’t become a star he made a decent living playing QB in the NFL for the last 9 years….once Colin works out as a TE, he’ll never have a shot at playing QB
He can always switch positions later…I don’t see why he wouldn’t try to make it to the NFL as a QB first if that’s the position he wants to play.
A shame someone with Klein’s character didn’t win the Heisman
