When Patriots right tackle Sebastian Vollmer hits the free agent market (or not) next month, he’ll be doing so on a surgically repaired knee.

According to Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald, Vollmer recently had an arthroscopic procedure. He played through back and knee problems last year but only missed one game.

With the degree of the surgery unknown, it’s unclear how it will impact the Patriots’ plans to negotiate with Vollmer.

A one-year franchise tag worth $9.6 million is a steep price, unless they’re confident his health issues aren’t an issue.
