Raiders’ Desmond Bryant arrested

Desmond Bryant AP

Raiders defensive tackle Desmond Bryant was arrested early this morning in Miami-Dade County, Florida.

The Miami-Dade Corrections website says Bryant was arrested early this morning for criminal mischief. No further information about what led to the arrest has been provided, and a call from PFT to the Miami-Dade Corrections department was not answered.

A rumor, apparently starting with Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel on Twitter, began circulating this morning about Dez Bryant of the Cowboys having been arrested, but that is not the case. Dallas’s Dez Bryant simply got mixed up with another NFL player who has a similar name. Dez Bryant took to Twitter and noted the “false rumors,” adding that he had been working out in Dallas this morning, not getting arrested in Miami.

Desmond Bryant has played for the Raiders for four years since signing with them as an undrafted free agent out of Harvard in 2009. He played in all 16 games and started eight last season, and he is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on March 12.

I’m not a lawyer so I googled criminal mischief in the state of Florida. It’s very sad to say but I would have understood a DUI or even a drug possession over getting arrested for this. Good luck in free agency.

He’s got to learn to take that ski mask off before going out!

An NFL player a criminal? From Harvard?

I thought that the only criminals coming out of Harvard were lawyers and politicians.

  9. jwreck says: Feb 24, 2013 11:17 AM

I have no desire to be arrested, but if I ever was, I really hope it would be for “criminal mischief”.

Don’t you mean to say that you hope this is handled like it’s a wealthy athlete facing charges?

Speaking of stock drop. Way to be smart as FA approaches

I blame Carson Palmer. Since Fabian Washington choked out his girlfriend in 2007, the only active Raider I recall catching handcuffs until the Palmer trade was Michael Bush. Since Palmer arrived, the arrest meter has spiked. Palmer doesn’t get in trouble himself, but he’s obviously a carrier.

Hopefully you’re never the victim of a stereotype. Too late for being a victim of stupidity and ignorance however.

This guy went to Harvard? Admission standards sure aren’t what they used to be.

  25. mullman76 says: Feb 24, 2013 11:44 AM

Not stoked. Didn’t expect this from someone who attended Harvard.

    Hopefully it gets handled properly.

Bryant is a solid defensive player, would like to see him stay with the RAIDERS, probably less likely now.

    Damn.

Proof that no good can come from being associated with the Raiders organization.

  27. timegambit says: Feb 24, 2013 11:52 AM

    Criminal mischief?

Sounds like he was ringing doorbells and then hiding in the bushes.

Or possibly arguing with a neighbors cat.

Mischief is something Dennis the Menace would be involved in.

    Harvard?!

  29. eatitfanboy says: Feb 24, 2013 12:38 PM

Any chance we could wait to see what he actually is accused of before we rush to judgement?

  30. lunarpie says: Feb 24, 2013 12:38 PM

Richard Seymour and Tommy Kelly are gone next year and the 3rd pick will most likely be a DT. Desmond Bryant’s play will improve with a younger more disciplined DT alongside. If this arrest keeps other teams from signing him, the Raiders now have some leverage to hold onto Desmond Bryant…

  32. hummer53 says: Feb 24, 2013 12:50 PM

Too bad your team has so much trouble beating them. Four of the last eight, one of the last four. Pathetic.

  34. kansacity88 says: Feb 24, 2013 12:58 PM

Being from Harvard, one could make the assumption that he’d be smart enough to stay out of trouble….I wouldn’t be that one, though!

  35. lukedogg087 says: Feb 24, 2013 2:02 PM

Cue the Raider hate. First of all he is not a Raider he is a UFA, 2nd there are offenders on every NFL team, 3rd let the facts come out before you say anything, criminal mischief sounds like being black on a Saturday to me.

  36. nflofficeadmin says: Feb 24, 2013 2:39 PM

Criminal mischief?? it sounds like the cops were just looking for something to pick this guy up on…

  38. hanspard says: Feb 24, 2013 3:45 PM

Wait a minute, his booking info says he weighs 220? We sure this is the same guy? Did he drop 65 pounds in the off-season?

  39. dallascowboysdishingthereal says: Feb 25, 2013 8:55 PM

I can’t believe that anyone would think it could possibly be the very clean living, model citizen, and righteous Dez Bryant.

  40. fahmundamahbalsaq says: Feb 26, 2013 4:25 AM

I took the same criminal mischief course at Harvard with him. My favorite memory of him was his term paper on Purple Drank.
