tedstheman says: Feb 24, 2013 8:44 PM

Dr. Andrews is full of it. Most of the league Dr. despise him. He has a full blown publicity machine that makes him look like the greatest orthopedic surgeon of all time. Of course he can say people like RGIII and latimore are ahead of schedule….but whose schedule? It’s ficticious! If RGIII plays week 1 or if Latimore plays week 1 they could end up like Jerry Rice and just get reinjured. No matter what the great Dr Andrews says, it’s still up to the ckubs medical staffs to clear the players and they won’t clear them until they are ready to play
_________
The fact is that Andrews is the greatest orthopedic surgeon of all time. Not only did he invent many of the techniques that are now used by orthopedic surgeons around the world, but his patients have always shown remarkable recovery time and lack of susceptibility to future injuries after working with Andrews as compared to other doctors. Look at Thomas Davis; compare Ricky Rubio to Derrick Rose and John Wall. How about Greg Oden-- I'm a big fan, but he went to a surgeon not name Andrews, and now his career is probably over.

And as to "Of course he can say people like RGIII and latimore are ahead of schedule…" he says they're ahead of schedule because they are objectively ahead of schedule. Many so-called medical experts and "unnamed sources" predicted that Griffin and Lattimore wouldn't be able to start rehab and physical training until Spring or early Summer, but both of them are already climbing stairs, doing swimming pool aerobics, and other advanced stages of physical therapy.

You can talk all you want about how Griffin's recovery is all BS or hearsay, but surgery recovery is a measurable, quantifiable statistic and pretending it isn't won't make your team better and it won't make you look smarter.

As I said above, I'm not a Redskins fan by any stretch of the imagination, it's in New York's best interest to keep him off the field for as long as possible, I'm just a realist.

I'm a hardcore Giants fan, but the fact is that the media, and specifically this website, is the only place where this "subtle tension" is being felt. The media knows this is the big storyline of the offseason and it's getting blown out of control, when in reality it's very cut and dry.

Griffin got hurt. He got surgery. Objectively he is recovering well. Andrews made optimistic statements about the Third's recovery. He then made tempering statements to remind everyone that surgery recovery is a business of speculation. Adidas centered an advertising campaign around the ongoing Robert Griffin storyline. Griffin issued a statement reminding everyone that advertisements are designed to sell things, not predict the 2013 NFL season.

Andrews did not flip-flop by first saying the "surgery went really well" and later saying "that doesn't mean Griffin will be running a 4.19 forty in May; it just means the surgery went well."

When Griffin added his "asterisk" to the Adidas ad, he wasn't informing the world that he was retiring from the NFL due to injury. He was reminding everyone that advertisements are fiction, as anybody who has opened a bottle of Red Stripe and not found themselves surrounded by hot girls at a Jamaican beach party knows very well.

Basically, Griffin's recovery will go as it goes; and anything said by Jason Cole, unnamed sources or this site's writers should be taken as seriously as you take the ad for the shoe that will transform you into Cam Newton.

I'm still 100% convinced that 90% of the people who call him a bust, call the shannys the devil, and call Snyder the worst owner in history, simply have it worse and dont have anything to be excited about on their own teama......Doormats? Did we not just win the NFC east with "no receivers" a rookie RB and half the D on IR???? Really?? Sure. We have been terribly mediocre for too many years but the times are changing and if you cant admit that, youre too much of a homer to provide Fair comment.

It's clear half the audience here isn't pragmatic, let alone know what the word means,..... The others just think REDskins nation are represented by mayor LOGICALVOICESAYS when in reality we roll our eyes and give him a thumbs up for Entertainment value.

Funny how little objectivity exists when discussing the REDskins.

I don't know what's more sad.

A) Because AD did something freakish, RG3 and frankly everyone will now be held to his unrealistic standard, and your less of a man if you don't do that.

B) Anytime anybody does something in sports extraordinary, lazy unathletic bloggers that don't workout and sit on websites all day claim they did steroids. Maybe AD just worked really hard/has great genes? Not every amazing feat in sports is due to roids, but that's what we've come to now.

Please calm down about this. There is definitely no reason to talk about this except of course for the season ticket holders and TV networks trying to line up match-ups for next year.
Anyway RG3 is young and driven, two very powerful allies for coming back from an injury. He may not return to his blistering speed, but luckily for the Skins he is smart and has a cannon arm with accuracy. Even if he doesn't break off 70 yard runs he will still surely fire 75 yard bombs down field.
Skins will be just fine, even if they have to start Cousins the first month of the season.

Its funny to see people bashing Shanahans. They gave this guy a niche in the NFL via option read and Kyle made him look allot better with easy passes out of that formation.
Funny how they turn into the bad guys when they want him to play when their job security counts on sucess of the team and to a certain extent RG3. Shouldnt it be vice versa considering they kept RG3 from being a bust?

Skins' return to doormats of the east without RG3? Is that groundbreaking news?

So would Colts without Manning. oh wait, that happened!
So would Saints without Brees; Packers without Rodgers; Falcons without Ryan; Ravens without Flacco; Eagles without Vick (that happened too); Patriots without Brady and so on. Of course a team needs its stud QB. I guess this person just realized that after watching the Skins win a division after they found a good QB. Just face it. The Skins will be a playoff contending team with RG3. Just accept it and move on.

tedstheman says: Feb 24, 2013 8:44 PM

--------------
Are you referring to Dr. James Andrews, Washington's team doctor?

Te Redskins have been ridiculous ever since Anyder took over. They are the only franchise in the league that would have had their future out there gimping around against Seattle risking further injury.

And RGIII needs to learn there was nothing brave about playing hurt against Seattle, just stupid.

At least he's not out dancing topless and wrestling with dudes in Vegas like Gronk. Seriously, RG3 will be just fine because he has the intelligence, determination and mentality to deal with this injury. And he will do whatever humanly possible to overcome it. I would not bet against RG3. While it is still early to predict his return, just the fact that he's had no set backs at this point and is ahead if schedule, makes me VERY happy.

Of course it's ridiculous to project when Griffin returns. And, keep in mind that BOTH knees were operated on.

The R knee for repair, the L as a ligament donor. Griffin's R knee had already donated available ligament (or cartilage or something) for his first (R)ACL repair a few years ago. So he's rehabbing both knees.

Lets not kid anyone and let's not ignore this elephant in the room. If RG3 was white, he would never be out under this type of pressure to come back for week 1. Look at how Strasburg was treated, as no one called him out for being a wimp for bailing on his team in a pennant race so his precious little arm could be rested until the time for his next contract negotiation. With RG3, he is looked at like a selfish prima Donna for worrying about his health.

I love these anonymous sources and people supposedly close to Griffin that have so much intimate knowledge of situations. Any genius that does research on this type of surgery knows that even a superhuman freak still wouldn't be able to walk this early. Thanks once again PFT and your plethora of anonymous sources for attempting to drum up something since its the offseason. Lets wait for actual people involved in the process(ie RG3, Dr. Andrews, Shanahan) to inform us of the progress.
