Getty ImagesThe defensive makeover in Philadelphia has begun, as the team announced today they had released defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins.
Jenkins was part of the “Dream Team” offseason of 2011, signing a five-year, $30 million contract. But like most things that offseason, he didn’t quite work out.
They’re looking to get younger and faster on defense, and a 32-year-old with a $1 million roster bonus due in March was a bad fit, even though he has experience in a 3-4 defense.

smart move
Back to Green Bay!
I wouldn’t mind seeing him back in GB, he was one of the reasons CM3 and Raji were more effective.
I also believe his leadership would go a ways in helping some of the youth on the DL.
Could be a Good Guy to Target for the KC Chiefs. Our GM is for Green Bay and coach form Philly, The two places C. Jenkins has played. We need some D Line Help.
Not surprising. He never panned out.
Watch him go to Dallas and revive his career.
I would gladly have him back in GB over Canty.
Are you seriously still making dream team references? Vince Young, a backup QB, says the words “like a dream team”, and here we are 2 years later referencing it. Get over it, seriously.
Other side of the state needs DL depth
As a Washington fan, I must admit to feeling very smug that Philly fans are quiet (until the pre-season starts). But I must admit that alot of washington fans are so annoying!
A good player who got old.
“Like most things in the off season, he didn’t work out” hahahaha, now that is funny! Go ahead GB, have at him, he needs a larger uniform now. A good target for KC Cheifs???? More like KFC spokeman.
A DT who is 32 and can play a little gets a $1000000 bonus. Ones who cannot play anymore, get cut. A DT who is 32 and has 3-4 experience get paid, fatties get cut.
I recall him getting some huge hits on guys (That giants running back and Matt Ryan) …
I figured Jason Babin/Trent Cole ‘s 2011 production was due from the pressure coming from the middle by Cullen… but idk, maybe he got old.
yeah, he can play either 3-4 or the 4-3,, was the only DT to make plays, and the only guy to stay healthy all year.
thats a terrible fit! get him outta here!!!!
lets go re-sign Nnamdi, the guy who ate lunch in his car rather than with his teamates.
Sweet.
He was the best of the 2011 free agent class, the only guy that stepped up and tried to be a leader on a leaderless Eagles team. Jenkins, Cox, Ryans, and Graham were the best Eagles defensive players last season.
I wish Jenkins luck he deserved a lot better then the mess in Philadelphia hopefully he goes to a contender. He can still get consistent interior pressure.
Nice fit for the Saints for a year while they transition to the 3-4. But only if hes cheap
He should have never left Green Bay. Bad career move. He got all bent out of shape because the Packers didn’t offer him a new contract during the season. Cry baby.
I admittedtly don’t know how bad he actually was last year but is he really worth cutting with a 1 mill bonus due? Seems like they paid him a ton of money to switch schemes and now that they’ve got him and have paid him said money now they’re gonna go to the scheme he’s comfortable in and they release him?
Now he can sign with a team that has a chance to compete next year.
He was a good leader and will be missed in philly though he wasnt used correctly… Hope he ends up in KC something tells me they let go of both or one of their draft bust DEs in Dorsey or Jackson..
I would take him in GB over Canty. Did well in our defense when he was here. Not sure what he has left though.
If Dallas, loses Spencer to FA, then Jenkins would be a good fit to pair up with Ratliff. Hatcher and Ware at the DE positions.
Come on Back to Green Bay… Never should have left in the first place!!!
I definitely think he should head back to Green Bay. I think the Packers were a little looney in the first place not giving him a moderate contract to stick around. He was without a doubt their best defensive lineman when healthy in their 2010 superbowl campaign.
I would rather see a 32 year old Jenkins on the field for the Pack than a 437 year old, 400 lb Ryan Pickett.
I like Jenkins but with all of the talk about there being a bad locker room, and Reid and Jenkins yelling at each other on the side lines, this might have been a move to help locker room chemistry. I wish him well…
The Packers let Jenkins go because Mike Neale was the heir apparent. Neale hasn’t panned out (admittedly due to injury) making the loss of Jenkins a huge loss.
I’d love to see him back with the Pack on a short term deal.
He’s a good dude. The Eagles need more locker room guys like him. I wish him all the best.
Come on Colbert…make a move! Jenkins would be a good start at upgrading our front 7.
Good player in the Superbowl run but Ted Thompson’s style will be to wait out the market and if he doesn’t get picked up, sign him to a league minimum. At 32, you have got to wonder what he has left in the tank.
He actually worked out great. It was just time to move on. Thanks Cullen for being a stand up guy and good dt
Glad the skins took Stephen Bowen over him
over 30 with injury problems = not coming back to GB.
Should never have chased the money. His play dropped off while his former teams play dropped off as well. Losing him hurt the Packers D the last 2 years more than the defensive talent around him in Philli hurt his play.
“Are you seriously still making dream team references? Vince Young, a backup QB, says the words “like a dream team”, and here we are 2 years later referencing it. Get over it, seriously.”
I was saying this when the media first went on a frenzy with it. It was one of the dumbest things to make a story of, and people actually rolled with it.
Vick also said the Eagles were building a dynasty at the time Vince Young was flappin’ his gums about a dream team.
We just aren’t over it yet because it is so hilarious still!
