Brady realized he had to give a discount. I thought he was done this year. I guess he figures he can last three more years, dinking and dunking to Wes Welker and Gronkowski. It is worth a lot more to be able to throw it OVER the head of the safety, instead of between the Defensive tackles.

Conveniently forgotten by denverdude was the second and third round picks and the $950,000 the Broncos were fined for circumventing the cap in order to pay Terrell Davis and John Elway back in ’99. And unlike N.E., they won the the Super Bowl that year.

Nope that was disproven and the Boston Herald which was the source of the story had to publicly apologize to the Pats organization for making up the claim with no substantiation.

They were penalized for taping defensive signals. The same signals that are in plain view to the entire stadium and that most teams keep track of through other means. It did make it slightly easier to collate the data, but any competent coach changes his signals around and it was not the magical telepathic system that bspn and certain others made it out to be.

You people trashing Brady are seriously lacking in intelligence. What NFL star QB who has made tens of millions of $ over the first 5-10 years of his career wouldn’t want to take a little less to help his team acquire more talent around him? Brady’s situation is not in any way similar to Flacco’s so t is unfair to compare them to each other. For all of the legitimate griping about the seriously disgusting greed of today’s athletes, doesn’t Brady deserve at least a little bit of credit for showing that he is willing to take a little less himself so that the team has a better chance of success overall? I don’t begrudge any athlete for getting as much $ for his talents that he can, but I also recognize someone who is willing to put the team’s success at least equal to his own personal financial gain. Bill Polian should be banned from commenting on anything to do with the Pats. That p.o.s. is why pass interference penalties are called the way they are in today’s NFL. Ty Law and the rest of the Pats secondary were “Too Rough” on the Colts receivers back in the day. He and Manning were total wusses and were very lucky to win their one and only SB. Which Manning played very average in by the way.

So I am having my weekly boys night out with my 14 year old son who is a high school QB and loves the Pats and Brady like I do . We are talking about how cool it is to see a non greedy pro athlete.

“Still” my son says “he will make like 15 million a year right?” That’s right I say and at the end of the day he throws a football like me right. Well not exactly but I get your point son.

And you are a surgeon and saves lives everyday but Brady makes more? Yup I said, he makes about 45 times as much as I do a year, and it gets worse, his wife makes 100 times more to wear underwear in magazines

That is just nuts my son says. Seems like it I know son. But we still go to all the games and cheer anyway dad so we must be nuts too!!

Not nuts son, just Americans …it’s what we do…now go outside and throw will ya, with any luck I can quit this surgery gig and watch you play instead

If Pats are still paying and playing Brady at 40 it’s because they have not found a young future star. Stars this old are generally shipped out if there is a suitable young replacement (see Montana, Favre, Manning, Rice, etc). It’s a young persons game. Pats fans should hope for it to happen (even if it sounds like sacrilege). It’s good for your team.

There is nothing more you want from a quaterback then what this guy has to offer. Late late draft pick. All winning seasons, team player, knows how to do it all. He has been to 5 Super Bowls and won 3. Whose better than him. He’s a winner and deserves any money he has gotten or will get. As a jets fan it hurts me to like and respect this guy so Much. Man I feel so spoiled to have had the privilege of watching Tom Brady play all these years. I swear, aside from maybe Peyton Manning, there isn’t a classier athlete in the NFL.

Makes me proud as a fan of sport to know not everything is not about money and that winning is what matters most.

I for one smell a rat. Being a team player and accepting a slightly reduced salary is one thing. Accepting less than half the salary lesser/equal players earn is just plain suspicious.

Before you go calling Brady the “Man of the Year” or whatever you want to attach to him, this was a business decision. Sitting atop a mountain of cash from his previous contacts and endorsements, this man’s legacy is worth more to him than the extra 30 million he could have demanded elsewhere. He’s being a “team player” because he can afford to be.

This is the same reason that you CAN’T rip Flacco (or his agent) for demanding top dollar. His piggy bank is only a fraction the size of Brady’s and if he takes a hometown discount and gets injured, we’ll all call him an idiot…

You don’t know how much Patriots were offering.They see that his accuracy is not what it has been in the past and he has shown signs of choking under pressure. His best days are behind him and we will not see another Patriots superbowl win with him as QB. I for one will be happy to see when these Brady bunch complainers are gone and we hopefully see the refs stop with the bad calls and No calls for this team to give them a major edge. It was the same thing as when the refs handed the conference game to Ravens when their no call screwed the 49ers- usually only see that type of bad refing in Patriots favor. You New England fans quit crowning Brady- crown the O line- they deserve more credit that Brady. Look how they made Cassel looked and now how he did with Chiefs

Hey if Brady didn’t already have enough money what would another 10 or 15 mil have meant ? If he was that greedy than he still wouldn’t have been happy.

Brady wants to have a strong roster around him. he understands that half the battle in getting to and winning a Super Bowl is having depth on your team.

I am not knocking TB he is a great QB I just think he is better suited to the type of system that is ran by the Pats. that system is more of a zone type offense where every route ran affects another route that’s being ran by someone else designed to ensure that someone is almost always open depending on time, space and progression of said play. it’s like a symphony everything relies on something else and it is a beautiful thing. don’t get me wrong. I am not saying he doesn’t have the ability to call individual routes to multiple receivers I’m saying his system doesn’t allow it.
