Report: Gronkowski had surgery for infection in arm

Whenever a pro athlete has surgery, it’s routinely declared to be a success.

Even if it isn’t.

For Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, the latest procedure aimed at fixing his twice-broken forearm has resulted in another surgery to address an infection.

Adam Schefter of ESPN and Field Yates of report that Gronkowski had surgery last week to clean out the infection.  Gronkowski is expected to be ready for training camp.

The medical situation explains Gronkowski’s unexpected decision to withdraw from serving as an NFL Network correspondent at the Oscars red carpet clusterfudge.

Gronkowski recently had shed the cast in his arm, which was believed to be a sign that the arm was recovering properly.

And, yes, there’s a “what happens in Vegas apparently doesn’t stay in Vegas” joke floating around in there somewhere, but I’m tired and I haven’t had dinner yet.

Gotta watch who you’re putting that arm inside, big fella.

Guess the “Meathead” shouldn’t have been drinking alcohol and wrestling.

  3. patriotsdefense says: Feb 25, 2013 6:54 PM

Heavy episodic drinking isn’t great for an immune system…

  4. randallflagg52 says: Feb 25, 2013 6:57 PM

How did he get an infection with all that alcohol in his system?

  5. jibzek says: Feb 25, 2013 6:58 PM

By surgery, you mean he had a cut he rubbed some bud light on it?

  6. j0esixpack says: Feb 25, 2013 7:01 PM

I’m not sure what the unspoken joke is, but if it involves Las Vegas and a full arm infection, you just ruined my appetite for dinner as well.

I knew that him dancing shirtless was going to come back to bite him….. *blatant sarcasm*

  8. hockeyflow33 says: Feb 25, 2013 7:06 PM

I would have thought some of that alcohol could be used to sterilize the arm

  9. stainlessstill says: Feb 25, 2013 7:07 PM

Probably from banging it against the ground in one of his 16 and under night-raves. Moron.

  13. doe22us says: Feb 25, 2013 7:19 PM

I guess slamming his hand while trying to “dance”wasnt a good thing after all.

  14. phazard says: Feb 25, 2013 7:19 PM

Surprised he didnt just pour some of his alcohol on it and call it good.

  15. emmac13 says: Feb 25, 2013 7:21 PM

    Staph…..It’s not just for Browns!

  16. adelphos33 says: Feb 25, 2013 7:22 PM

A lot of bacteria and viruses swim around in Vegas pools and hot tubs. If you are in a cast, you should avoid them…

I fear for his future. injuries don’t just go away without fixing the root cause, which is a lack of nutrition. and if his deficiencies are caused by mal-absorption I just wish I could know so I could stay away from him in fantasy football

Too much fingerbangin Mary Jane rottencrotch in Baton Rouge. If he were a tight end of high moral fibre like Jimmy Graham he wouldn’t have these problems.

That’s what happens when you spend all your time doing keg stands instead of practicing

I hope this year’s Summer Of Gronk isn’t a let down.

This is incredibly stupid. Any surgery bears a risk of infection, hence why they have a antibiotic fluid bag given intravenously during surgery.

  24. cosanostra71 says: Feb 25, 2013 8:36 PM

Calm down.. He was just trying to score some anesthesia for his upcoming Vegas trip! Party on Gronk!

  25. logast says: Feb 25, 2013 9:09 PM

And as I have posted here before. To all of the detractors: Would you be saying this if Gronk was on your favorite team?

    I didn’t think so.

    Go Pats!

  26. marc2k6 says: Feb 25, 2013 9:11 PM

Gronk is 1 dumb MFer! I bet his arm is infected with the clap!

  27. raiderlyfe510 says: Feb 25, 2013 9:12 PM

I saw Gronk doing the Harlem Shake at a club in Las Vegas Saturday night.

  28. jameslongstaffe says: Feb 25, 2013 9:29 PM

Came back too soon, forearm fractures take a long time to heal. His 2nd fracture occurred at end of plate because stress was transferred there due to an unhealed injury. He should be good to go hopefully:)

  29. drewzducks says: Feb 25, 2013 9:39 PM

When “Gronkowski” and “infection” appear in the same sentence no one is thinking this is about his arm.

  30. tyler4richardson says: Feb 25, 2013 10:04 PM

Yikes. Him and Bibi Jones got a little too close.

  31. jameslongstaffe says: Feb 25, 2013 10:21 PM

Basic fracture principles an aspiring medical student could understand. NFL teams don’t follow Newtons’s laws tho. Good example for the rest of us lol

  32. badintent says: Feb 25, 2013 10:44 PM

    “Saturday Night Fever” infection !!

  33. micker716 says: Feb 25, 2013 10:48 PM

Who would’ve guessed? Those Vegas dance floors seem so clean and antiseptic.

  34. boogerhut says: Feb 26, 2013 12:47 AM

States right on every bottle of antibiotics: Don’t consume alcohol. What’s his reading level?

  35. uangerme says: Feb 26, 2013 7:47 AM

How did I know all you trolls would blame this on his partying? Morons, all of you.
