Report: Gronkowski had surgery for infection in arm

Gronkowski

Whenever a pro athlete has surgery, it’s routinely declared to be a success.

Even if it isn’t.

For Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, the latest procedure aimed at fixing his twice-broken forearm has resulted in another surgery to address an infection.

Adam Schefter of ESPN and Field Yates of ESPNBoston.com report that Gronkowski had surgery last week to clean out the infection. Gronkowski is expected to be ready for training camp.

The medical situation explains Gronkowski’s unexpected decision to withdraw from serving as an NFL Network correspondent at the Oscars red carpet clusterfudge.

Gronkowski recently had shed the cast in his arm, which was believed to be a sign that the arm was recovering properly.

And, yes, there’s a “what happens in Vegas apparently doesn’t stay in Vegas” joke floating around in there somewhere, but I’m tired and I haven’t had dinner yet.
