APSome believe that Doug Free will no longer be the Cowboys’ left tackle. But that doesn’t mean he’ll no longer be with the team.
Executive V.P. Stephen Jones said Monday that the Cowboys are considering moving Free from right tackle to guard.
“I’d never rule out anything,” Jones said, via the team’s official website. “We’re looking at it. We’re going to un-turn every stone to get better. But I wouldn’t rule him out of tackle either. He’s pretty versatile. He’s smart.”
Free fell in the eyes of the team during the 2012 season, finding himself in a rotation at right tackle with Jermey Parnell.
Cutting Free would result in a fairly stiff cap hit, either this year or next year depending on whether it’s treated as a post-June 1 release. But even if Free is cut in March with the June 1 designation, his 2013 salary still counts against the cap until June 1 comes and goes.

That pic tells the story of Doug Free’s 2012 season. More of a Romo obstacle than a Romo protector.
They could move him to FS as well…he’s just as likely play well there. The guy just isn’t that good and Jerry should never have paid him.
He wasn’t the Cowboy’s left tackle to begin with
Free is the Cowboys right Tackle, not Left. He’s also not very well suited for Guard. His strength is in his footwork and technique, which is still not all that good. His weakness is a lack of strength. He would get pushed around by these massive, strong Defensive Tackles. He would be twice the failure at Guard as he was as a Tackle. And that’s saying a lot.
Wasn’t there a day when the coach actually made this decision? Sorry, Cowboy fans, for having to pay for Jones’ ego and ignorance.
No we don’t!!! If anything we need to move him out of STATE!! Dude is paid millions to protect the QB which he is very horrible at. Doug Free couldn’t block rain water with an umbrella!! CUTHISASS
First paragraph he’s a left tackle and then he’s the right tackle. Mike can’t help but make up news. Maybe someone should stick to the Rumors and bashing the Jets.
Remember, it’s important to Jerrah the GM that he gets appropriate credit for his successful personnel moves, like locking up Doug Free to a big multi-year contract after one season of near-competency.
This kind of talk scares me. They are probably stuck with Free another season because of his contract.
Free has failed at left and right tackle so why in the world should anyone think he will be successful at guard?
Jerry better draft himself a guard very early in the draft and don’t count on Free to do anything other than serve as a blocking dummy at practice.
Would it matter?
Get real people and get this bum off the roster, he simply does not have the strength to play anywhere on the OL suck it up JJ and eat whatever $$ you have to cause once again you made a terrible sign
