Dee Milliner clears up questions, runs a 4.31

Dee Milliner AP

Alabama cornerback Dee Milliner had a simple message for those who questioned his athleticism: “Watch the NFL Combine.”

If they were watching Tuesday morning, those questions no longer exist.

Milliner put up the fastest time of the morning so far by a defensive back, running a scorching 4.31-second 40 on his first attempt. His second was a 4.37, validating the first one.

That kind of speed clears up one of the few remaining concerns about his game, and likely cements him as a Top 10 pick.

Actually, it probably does more than that. Detroit is picking fifth overall, and has a glaring need at Milliner’s position. So anyone who wants a shot at him is probably going to have to be in front of them, or make a deal with someone who is.

Don’t do it Detroit. That shoulder is wrecked. Remember how Delmas was!

I walked through the Indy convention center on Saturday evening and was amazed at how many guys were practicing their 40’s on the carpet in the hallways. Guess that shows me just how important everyone feels it is. Guess after the combine you can only hope this speed translates to the game.

I can’t imagine that the Lions would pass on him at #5 but, if he goes earlier, Fisher, Lane Johnson or Ziggy Ansah would be nice consolation prices.

That said, his value seems enhanced by impression that there is a rather large drop-off from the #1 corner to the guy in Second. Supply and Demand.

Ok if Star is gone but pick 4 i would run to the podium for this guy hes clearly in the same class as Morris Clariborne as an athlete and also a better cover man than either Morris or Pat Peterson and Lord knows in Philly we need a good cover corner.

Everyone keeps talking about the Lions at 5 but what about the Eagles at 4? Currently the starters are Curtis Marsh and Nnamdi $15 million dollar Asomougha.

And Philly is picking 4th & also has a glaring need at CB. Also, it’s not outside the realm of possibility that Oakland takes him 3rd. So Detroit will likely have to swing a trade to land Milliner. Especially w/ Star & Jarvis having medical red flags.

Are those official or unofficial times?

Wish there was no talk of unofficial times, they dont seem to ever be the same as the official times, so whats the point of even mentioning them?

If he’s on the board when Eagles pick, I don’t seem him falling to Detroit. Detroit may have a glaring need, but Eagles need a defensive game changing back like this.

Cool. Now the Lions will be able to trade down. I like this.

No one even mentions Oakland they pick 3rd overall, and had a FS playing CB last season he won’t make it to the Eagles or Lions unless them or some other team trades allot for the 3rd overall pick because Oakland’s biggest need is more picks.

Raiders show interest in taking him, forcing someone to move up 2 spots to get him, get another pick in process.
If not, Raids could do a lot worse than taking a DB, lord knows they need it, AND a lot more.

This means a lot during a game when Milliner is running straight for 40 yards with no pads and no one near him.

I have been really worried about the eagles taking this kid at 4, because everything i heard up to this point was that he was great in space, but not great in man because he lacked the speed…last week i head an interview and someone who “was close to milliner” described him as “just another cornerback”…and he still has to have shoulder surgery…at this point with the red flags with him, star, jarvis jones etc…i wouldn’t mind the birds either trading back or reaching a bit for chance warmack and suring up the o-line…it’s a horrible year to have a top 5 pick, but i guess it’s hard to go wrong when you have so many holes to fill…hopefully howie lets gamble make the decisions in the draft and he can start building a great roster like he did in san fran
