They need a veteran back up in case the old man bust a hip dancing with Giselle.

I imagine offers will start rolling in when evaluators finally get a good look at the QBs in this class and weigh that against an NFL ready, NFL trained Mallett with tons of physical tools.

Ryan Mallett would easily go #1 in this class, but that doesn’t make him worth that pick. I imagine NE will end up accepting a second or so if they plan to move on with Brady (which I gladly will let him be the QB until he decides to retire… good or not. He’s earned it).

Maybe, but so what? There’s arguably not one QB with a first round grade in this draft. Remains to be seen if this draft produces one starter. Mallett has a big arm and size(although he may be too tall, not many QB’s have made it at his height), is a statue in the pocket and is slow to make decisions and release the ball. That’s assuming he’s overcome the immaturity issues that were the main reason he dropped in the draft. Maybe he’ll be an NFL starter someday, but to claim he’s some kind of stud in waiting or you could get a decent pick in trade is ludricous, IMO

How many blow out wins did the Pat’s have last year? And they only sent him in to run the victory formation at the end of the game. If they thought they could trade him they would have played him.

Buffalo would likely take a chance on Mallett, but the Patriots probably wouldn’t want to let him go there. Then again, The Pats traded Drew Bledsoe to the Bills when they found out what they had in Brady. So I guess you really can’t count anything out. Thing is, beside playing for Belichick and learning from Brady, does Mallett have what it takes to become a starter? He is the proto-typical size for an NFL QB, has a big arm, but does he have the mental qualities to make it? If I ran the Bills, I’d offer up some sort of deal to the Patriots. He can’t be any worse than the Quarterbacks coming out this year.

There is no game tape on Mallett, they’d never get any value for him. He makes 645k this year. Hold on to him, get him on tape in the preseason, draft a developmental QB this yr and try to get something for him next offseason

Is this guy any worse a prospect right now than Geno Smith or Matt Barkley? Someone’s gonna use high picks on those and other QB’s. How about Blaine Gabbert, Jake Locker or Christian Ponder for that matter?
If nothing else, Mallet’s had two seasons of outstanding coaching and has worked with/studied under an exceptional QB; that’s gotta count for something. Heck, he’s been involved in preparations for a Super Bowl and a Conference Title Game in those two seasons. Great size, a tremendous arm and he played against the best in the SEC.
