Roethlisberger annually leads a scoring offense that ranks near the bottom of the league. He’s thrown more than 30 TD passes in a season just once in nine years.
In two Super Bowl wins, he’s thrown one TD pass. The one he threw won the game against the worst defensive team in Super Bowl history. For 59 minutes and 30 seconds of that game, Roethlisberger and his offense produced just 13 points against a defense Matt Cassell and the Patriots had shredded for 47 points in a game just a few weeks before the Super Bowl.
Roethlisberger has two Super Bowl rings because of Randel El, Willie Parker and Hines Ward in Super Bowl 40, and because of James Harrison and Santonio Holmes in Super Bowl 43…
If you want to tell me that the Steelers wouldn’t have even gotten to Super Bowl 40 without Roethlisberger, I won’t disagree. But he hasn’t played that consistently well since. That was seven, going on 8 long seasons ago.
Roethlisberger is not the kind of quarterback who can, or does, carry a team. He is what he is: Extremely blessed to have been drafted by a defensive-minded franchise.

joe is getting his first big contract so of course he is shooting for the moon. they all do. and joe has already said he is willing to structure his deal so it will be cap friendly. just like ben and brady. those guys arent giving back money. they are getting it up front to help create cap space. it helps player and team. but eventually all the restructed money goes against the cap. at some point restructing big deals hurts the team. as far as ben being top 5 right now…i dont think so. he has fallen off a bit and cant stay healthy. still very good though. and who really cares about regular season stats unless you play fantasy. ben and joe dont put up huge numbers. but ben has 2 rings joe has 1. eli has 2 rodgers peyton and brees have 1 and ryan romo and stafford have 0 and 2 playoff wins between them.

Oh I’m sorry I guess Ben didn’t make that throw to santonio in the back of the end zone against the cardinal , I must be mistaken , didn’t drive down the field with less than 3 minutes left and throw the game winning touchdown , I guess it was Charlie batch , thanks for clearing that up for me !
Ben is a better regular season QB than flacco , the stats don’t lie
Flacco is good dont get me wrong but is no where near bens level

Yet Ben was watching the post season from his couch and Flacco had statistics in the post season that were among the best… ever… in football and ended it with a Super Bowl MVP which Ben is still looking for.

Are you guys seriously that dumb? It has nothing to do with the pats or ravens. Steelers are 14 million over and if they restructure Roethlisberger and Timmons alone they recover 9 million. That’s it, stop pretending they are following the pats or helping the ravens.

Restructuring does catch up with you. The steelers are about 10 mil over the cap before restructuring BR. They owe about 100 mil out of 121 mil cap to 10 players. They cut a lot of veteran leadership last yr and, big suprise, the locker room is in disarray. They’ll have to do it again this yr. The Pats were 18 mil under before the Brady restructure, now they’re 26 mil under.

Uh uneducated football fans are the best , speaking on subjects they don’t understand and spewing unfactual opinions , it really shows the education if sports “fans” these days .
If you think that restructuring hurts the team down the road you’re just plain wrong , do your research please , this restructure helps the team now and in the future , you give money upfront and lower the cap number on the year , and years to come . It’s actually quiet simple to understand yet people are idiots . The steelers have been to the playoffs 12 out of the last 20 years , they’ve been to the playoffs 27 times , 27 !!! Since the playoffs started in the Super Bowl era , a team that in that consistently good deserves to have a bad year , you can’t be great every year , you just can’t .

You can call it “manipulation” if you want to but eventually the money is due just like a balloon payment of any kind. Nobody is gaming the salary cap.

If I’m not mistaken, you can’t restructure a contract to spread the money out over more years. Just push more of the cash to the last years. So instead of BR having a huge salary this year an two smaller years they just even the numbers out. Why is everyone thinking this is going to kill the steelers for the next 10 years????

Keep restructuring and pushing the money back will always catch up. Ask the Titans who owed Steve McNair a lot of money or the Colts with Manning. It gets to the point that the team cannot afford to keep their beloved QB.

Steelers need to do alot more than BR’s contract.

Unlike NE they tend to hold onto non productive veterans much too long.

Troy P is killing them last 2 years. They need to get younger…fast..or never mind the Ravens, they are below the Bengals too.

Scary thought, but Browns have much better YOUNG roster…but no productive veterans…or leadership.

Restructuring is a no-brainer for anyone, as long as they have enough to live on year-to-year. Spreading the income over a longer time period lowers the total tax burdern.

When are quarterbacks going to stop getting medals and notority for restructuring their obscene contracts? Restructuring is nothing more than redistribution of the money. Roethlisberger will not lose a precious penny of his $110 million. What Brady did was accept a contract extention that is below market value. Huge difference.
Roethlisberger has restructured his contract many times over but is still one of the top-paid QBs in the league.

Ok you guys do realize that a QB agreeing to take more money as a bonus up front doesn’t mean he’s sacrificing anything. In fact he’s acting on a very opportunistic no brainer of a decision.

Net Net, none of these guys are taking a single penny less than their original contract promises them.
