Getty ImagesIt’s a given that the 49ers and Chiefs have a deal in place that will send quarterback Alex Smith to Kansas City once the league year starts on March 12 at 4:00 p.m. ET. Indeed, Jay Glazer of FOX wouldn’t be reporting it if it weren’t completely and entirely accurate.
But the Chiefs are saying nothing. Through a spokesman, the team said that there will be “no comment” regarding the “rumors” that have emerged.
It could be that the Chiefs are simply playing it cool in the event something unforeseen happens. After all, the trade can’t become official until the league year begins. Until then, in theory, the 49ers or the Chiefs could renege. We’ve asked the league office for confirmation as to the apparent reality that the agreement is non-binding until the league year opens in 13 days. If so, there’s a chance — albeit likely remote — that the 49ers or the Chiefs could back away from the bargain.

i was waiting to see a report like this and here it is.
Yea I would be too.
Don’t talk with your mouth full Andy Reid!
Alex Smith is a decent game manager. Andy Reid enjoys throwing the ball 55 times per game. Something on this will give. And it won’t be pretty.
Perhaps Reid will come to his senses and realize giving up two 2nds for a guy who was on the street 12 months ago is ridiculous.
It’s a done deal for all intents and purposes. All the draft gurus have Alex going to K.C. and Reid likes Alex as qb. This should be a treat compared to the fumbling and bumbling in Philly.
They probably just realized that they gave up too much for him.
hopefully the chiefs don’t see him throw between now and the 13th
This should sound familiar to Eagles fans.
We’re used to Andy Reid unnecessarily using situations like this to make his control-freak / media-phobic point that *he* is in control of the team, not reporters (and by dint, the fans).
We’re not allowed to know anything about anything until *he says* we can.
they don’t want Defences to game plan against the Great Alex Smith too soon! So REDICULOUS. That’s the Chiefs being the Chiefs
Chiefs aren’t saying anything, but Alex’s Mum just tweeted, “Yeah, we’re going to Kansas City, Kansas City here we come!”.
Never ceases to amaze me how fans and pundits think they know more about the QB position than Andy Reid. That man has won with every QB he put under center. I think he knows a thing or two about evaluating QBs as to which one can or can’t run his system.
If the trade has the Chiefs giving up more then a 4th round pick then it is an awful deal. Smith is nothing more then serviceable and there isn’t another team in the NFL very interested in him. The 49ers will need to cut him for CAP reasons anyway which makes the deal more insane.
Right thats why Reid got fired in Philly, with the dream team.
