APThe Giants made a move to solidify themselves entering free agency, signing left tackle Will Beatty to a new five-year contract.
According to Jenny Vrentas of the Newark Star-Ledger, the Giants signed Beatty to a deal worth up to $38.75 million, with $12.5 million signing bonus and $19 million fully guaranteed.
The former second-round pick has been a solid player when well, and striking a deal before he hit the market reflects the realities of playing a position with plenty of options.
The Giants also have to deal with left guard Kevin Boothe, and Diehl admitted yesterday his $4.475 salary makes his future uncertain.

Wow!! just wow!!!
Smart move. Boothe is our best lineman right now. Beatty is right behind him. Giants know where their priorities lie.
Good move. Now we need an upgrade on defense.
go gmen!!!! good move jerry
Excellent value signing if he stays healthy. Teams don’t need a top 5 LT to be successful (Cleveland) but a top 10 sure is nice
Typical Giants signing…nothing flashy, just a solid move.
I’ve been waiting anxiously for this to get done. I am a very happy Giants fan right now. Good young player, still getting better.
I agree, good move. When you’ve got a good QB, you need a good left tackle. Taking care of that man should be a priority.
Only problem I have with Beatty is the stupid penalties that killed so many drives this year. Blocking-wise, he has been working with Flaherty and it shows.
It’s be nice to see DJ Fluker at 19 so the g-men will have a new monster RT.
Very nice! He was a major priority
We do what we need to do to keep Elite-I clean. This will help shore up the O line for years to come. Go Blue!
Shades of Brad Benson back in the 80s. Benson made himself a top flight left tackle by going against Lawrence Taylor in practice every day. Beatty takes on the Giants’ DEs in practice, who all have varied methods of pass-rushing – and like Benson, Beatty has quietly become a reliable LT.
Thanks to the Giants for setting the FA Tackle market. I think it helps the Pats with Volmer. I think they’d do a similar deal with him with some protection built in because his chronic back problems.

“Hi, this is Brad Benson, from Brad Benson Hyundai.” – just have those commercials stuck in my head now.
ha I remember those commercials also.
Another benefit is that they still have the franchise tag in their back pocket in case they find themselves in a thin market with Phillips and Bennett.
