Pat White will take part in West Virginia pro day

A healthy number of the 32 NFL teams figure to be in Morgantown, West Virginia on March 14 to check out quarterback Geno Smith at the University of West Virginia pro day.

They’ll be able to see another quarterback work out while they’re there. Former Dolphins second-round pick and former West Virginia star Pat White will also be taking part in the showcase as part of the comeback attempt he announced last month.

The word on White’s involvement comes from his quarterback coach George Whitfield. Whitfield tweeted out some pictures of White working out, Matt Hinton of CBSSports.com pointed us in the right direction, in advance of what Whitfield calls his “relaunch.” Whitfield praised his pupil for making a “seamless transition” back to football, something the scouts will judge for themselves soon enough.

You wouldn’t expect Whitfield to say anything else since he’s the confident fellow who thinks he can make Tim Tebow a viable starting quarterback. Whitfield helped prepare Cam Newton and Andrew Luck for the draft and has also worked with Ben Roethlisberger in recent years. That doesn’t mean White’s any better prepared to be an NFL quarterback now than he was coming out of West Virginia, but he’s getting the right help in his effort.

Should White’s comeback effort fall short, he may have a fallback option in his previous fallback option of baseball. The Marlins offered him a minor league contract last month.
