Report: Dolphins looking at free-agent wide receivers

The Dolphins were No. 26 in passing yards in 2012, and the development of second-year QB Ryan Tannehill is key to the club’s future.

Not surprisingly, wide receiver looks to be an offseason priority for the Dolphins.

According to Ben Volin of The Palm Beach Post, who quoted a league source, the Dolphins were “active in meetings” with free-agent wide receivers at the Combine.

The wide receivers who interest the Dolphins are unknown. Packers wide receiver Greg Jennings has long been regarded as a potential fit for Miami, but Green Bay could potentially use the franchise tag on the wideout. Jennings, the Steelers’ Mike Wallace, the Chiefs’ Dwayne Bowe and the Patriots’ Wes Welker are among the best wide receivers who could test unrestricted free agency.

The Dolphins’ top wide receiver, Brian Hartline, is also slated to become an unrestricted free agent, and the club has reportedly shown an interest in bringing him back.

  1. This is groundbreaking news! Are you serious when you say a football team is looking for possible new players? I am shocked. Until now, I thought they had been using the same ones over and over.

  2. Wow this is a revelation. Next thing you know you’ll hear about how the Lions need a CB, the Bears need an OLine, the Jets need a QB, Tom Brady needs a new pair of uggs.

come on tell us something we don’t know.

  3. For the person wondering why they got rid of BM & Ocho…Because the coach wants WR’s that abuse cornerbacks not their Spouse’s, Chad is done & Brandon is all about numbers not the team…

  4. Jennings still has lots of game left for one more year. But the only reason the Packers will franchise him is to keep him out of the division like they did when they sent Favre to the Jets.

Plus he deserves a nice payday for at least one season.

  5. I really think D. Bowe could end up being the best of the bunch. He’s a big physical receiver who has never really had a quality QB throwing to him yet put up decent numbers. He could raise Miami’s passing game similar to what V. Jax did in Tampa. I like Wallace’s speed and he doesn’t get nearly enough credit for opening up the under neath passing game. Jennings and Welker are good but I would prefer someone younger to grow with my young QB.

  6. In other breaking news, Christian Ponder was spotted recently talking to Brett Favre about a throwing arm transplant… So he could finally get the ball more than 20 yards downfield.

Also, Adrian Peterson was spotted shopping for saddles. He thinks he can get another nine yards if he has cushion from Ponders bony ass while the QB rides his back!

  7. Wallace, according to several super-secret sources, will be headed to Jacksonville. Good Riddance, Mike. Bowe will be going to Miami.

  8. Everyone is pointing to Jennings and Wallace.

I’d be surprised if the Dolphins land either of these two guys. Most likely would need to overpay for both and I just don’t see them doing that.

It must be tough to be a Fin fan!

Funny coming form a jest fan. The Dolphins are in a lot better position than your hapless franchise.

    How’s that Tebow thing going?

  10. Being a Dolphins fan is better than being a Jets fan?

Would you rather have your team suck every year or a team that is really good some years and bad other years?

I will take the latter with the Jets. The pathetic Dolphins have not won 1 freakin playoff game in nearly 13 years! Over a decade! And they only made the playoffs at all once in that time frame.

At least WE aren’t the little sisters to the Giants 😉

  12. Why keep arguing about the dolphins and the jets.?The Jets for the last 2 years have had nothing but drama follow them, and they suck as well. Last season was completely embarassing. At least the dolphins have hope with Tannehill.

  13. Why it’s better to be a dolphins Fan!

*Disclaimer* this will hurt J-E-T-S…Jets Fans

    1.More Superbowls (2-1)
    2.More Conference Titles (5-0)
    3.More Division Titles (13-4)
    4. More Playoff Appearances (22-14)

    5. The Pefect Season
    6. Don Shula (Most Wins Ever)
    7. Dan Marino (One Of the Best Ever!)

I’ll take all that over Joe Namath

  14. The Chiefs aren’t going to let Bowe go, not after picking up Alex Smith. Jennings will probably be tagged. Wallace isn’t worth what it would cost to bring him in. Welker would be a good fit, but will also require big money. I seriously doubt that Hartline will be able to even test the waters. Miami should have him locked up soon.
The Draft is layered with great Receivers. Receivers that will last until the second/third round because there are so many of them. The Dolphins best bet would be to resign Hartline and use their first round pick on one of the best Receivers. Tannehill needs all the help he can get.

  15. I think Miami should grab Wallace, draft an O-lineman in the 1st round, look for a WR and CB’s in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. I know an OL isn’t sexy, but Tannehill needs to be protected!
